@Millie I've never been near a wildfire -- that must have been really disconcerting! I can't imagine walking out side and smelling the smoke...and not knowing which way it was going to move next.

@Joe Thanks for your insights into FW. I have so many questions about that place. Did you ever get a chance to see the Fort Wilderness Railroad?!?

Yes I did. But only on our first visit to FW in the early 70s. It was actually a tram that would go all around the resort. Kids would ride it for hours. Don't gots no piturs of that one.

Even as a city boy, I have to agree with Joe. Regardless of the motivation, the end result at FW is less appealing to me. About wildfires; growing up in Southern California, I've seen many of them up close. It is not a good feeling. Seeing an out of control fire raging near enough to you/your home/your loved ones to smell and sometimes feel the heat is rather uncomfortable. We had fires that close to us more than a few times, but thankfully our home was never directly affected.

At a bare minimum, if they needed to do it for wildfires or pests, it seems like they overdid it. At least based on Joe's video.

Here's a new subject.
On Sept. 6,2009 we will be at Pop Century for 6 nights. We do this quarterly.
A typical day goes like this:
I get out of bed about 9AM, get cleaned up, dressed then head down to the food court. Not too crowded by this time of morning. Hang out a while people watching (We enjoy that.) then get some coffee to go in our mugs, ( Yes! We use the same mugs at every resort every time we go to WDW. God forgive us this indiscretions.), pick up some pastry and head back to our room. Jan will wake up between 10 or 11 and enjoy the coffee and pastry before getting ready to start the days traveling. We will go back to the food court to have a more substantial breakfast then catch a buss to Downtown Disney. We wander around Downtown for an hour or so then catch a boat ride to Port Orleans French Quarter. Wander around there a while. All the resorts are fascinating. Hop back on a boat and head up stream to Port Orleans Riverside. Stroll through the resort and settle down at the old mill food court. Have a nice, inexpensive lunch and head back to the boat dock. Another leisurely ride back to Downtown Disney and wander around there for a while. Remember that hours pass while doing all this. Now it's time to go back to our room, ( the buss ride is so much fun watching all the happy family's), clean up and rest a while. We are old after all. Then we take the buss to Magic Kingdom where we catch the boat to Ft. Wilderness. We have dinner at Trails End, visiting with our friend server, Gary. After dinner walk over to the Trading Post and look around. We then will head back to the boat dock and ride back to Magic Kingdom. Once there we take the bus to Pop Century and finish up the day in the food court having a hot chocolate watching people. Tomorrow we will do the same thing in another direction. Don't spend much money and love every minute of it.

I just love that French Quarter food court. The parade floats and things make it so festive. Do you get the beignets?

And Riverside has about the best food court on property, I think.

Your day sounds just about right, to me. Especially the hot chocolate at the end. We people-watch endlessly on our trips. We find it both relaxing and entertaining. So many families and couples at different stages of life.

Where did you get that little decal that has the 51 days in it?

That vacation sounds really relaxing. Do you ever get dinner at the Pop Century food court. That's one of my favorite quick services places in WDW.

Yes Brad. We eat some dinners there every time we go. Good food at a reasonable(It is Disney after all.) price.
Jan likes the Chinese and I like the parmesan crusted chicken

DH and I love PO Riverside and Pop Century. When we went last year, we stayed at Pop and both of us were trying to watch our weight so we ordered kids meals...which actually was just the right portion size for a weight loss program.

This year at Riverside I had the "design your own" pasta from the food court and it was fabulous!! Alfredo Penne with proscuitto, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and chicken...for the price of a QS meal! Delicious...made to order right in front of me awesome

Yum -- that sounds amazing. I wonder if they do that anywhere else?

@Subvetss -- I love the Pop Century series of photos. It's one of my favorite places to stay.

The pix with the kids was taken about 5 years ago. All our kids range from mid 40s to early 50s. All the grand kids are in their 20s.

I have been retired going on 12 years now and am a 24/7 care giver for my wife Jan. I don't get out of earshot of her. I have nothing to do but take her to doctors( every week), hospital for blood work (every week), sit in front of the TV, read or play at the computer. I have over five thousand Disney photos all reduced file size to fit on this board. It's fun to post them.
This pix. is all the kids, grand kids and us at All-Star Music.

Joe -- you're the best. Jan's so lucky to have you, and I'm sure you feel that you're just as lucky to have her!

What a GREAT photo op of all the kids! Another resort I've never been to... Everyone looks like little dolls in a giant soda shop!

I know this is not Disney because there wasn't any WDW when this was taken but I thought it would be OK.
Pix is Jan when she was 16 and me at 20. We've been sweethearts a long long time. It's even more romantic in Disney World.

I have been to that site and have plenty of pictures that would be nice to post there but I prefer to post the pix of my family taking part in something at WDW. Kind of like a personal adventure with pictures. I hope others will do that with a little line about who, what and where.
