Pop Century for my 30th Birthday Trip?

So I know it's a while away, but I've already started planning my 30th birthday trip for January 2016, because I'm obsessed with planning Disney trips. Last time we visited, we stayed in Art of Animation and loved it. I guess the only thing I found annoying about it was there not being an indoor bar/table service restaurant, but obviously, this is going to be an issue at any Value resort.

I'm not totally opposed to the idea of upgrading to a moderate resort this time around, but at the same time, we are on a limited budget and as we're flying from the UK, we like to go for as long as possible (aiming for 10 days) and stay in slightly cheaper accommodation.

I quite like the idea of staying in Pop Century, mainly for the nostalgia factor (seems perfect for my 30th birthday), and I've read a lot of good reviews, plus some reviews saying AoA is the better deal.

I realise this is a big ramble, but really I'm just looking for opinions here. Who loves Pop Century? Why do you love it? If you don't like it, why not? Is it worth our while upgrading to a moderate? Bear in mind that we are quite used to staying in value resorts and do not tend to spend a lot of time in our room.

The other resort I would potentially consider is Coronado Springs. While we loved AoA, I want to try somewhere new, and I don't think I'd cope well at the All Stars with the long bus journeys!

Thanks! Smile

I love Pop. I've stayed there during my last four November trips and will stay there again in July when I go down for my cousin's wedding. I love the theming. My favorite section is the 50s.

I've stayed at POP twice and really liked it. We tend to only be in the room to sleep so upgrading to a moderate didn't make sense to us.

I always remember that you love Pop, and it makes me want to go there. I think I'm going to request to stay in the 50s section. I've always been big on the 50s in general so it seems like a perfect location for a 30th birthday trip.

Thanks for this! I'm with you on only being in the room for sleeping, and when we stayed at AoA, we found it really easy to get around using the Magical Express. Think I'm pretty much sold on Pop now.

We stay in the Values too based on budget. One day i will make it to a Deluxe but I doubt it will be an every time kind of thing. We are go go go when we are on vacation usually getting back to our room to CRASH!!! We have stayed at AoA and all of the Values. I've never encountered any issues. Rooms are clean and comfortable. We've never had too bad of a walk but after walking all day, a little more ain't gonna kill ya! I say go for it! The money we save we put towards food and more souvenirs to bring home or just save it an put it towards the next trip!!!

I love POP and would absolutely stay there again in a heartbeat. The rooms are nice, the theming is great, and the food court is the best out of the values I've stayed at (All Star Sports, Music and Pop). I loveee that it has its own bus with the one stop so you don't have to worry about extra stops. Overall I felt that the bus rides were significantly less than the ones for All Stars. And although it doesn't have a table service restaurant, the pool bar makes excellent drinks and is awesome for a late night cocktail after the parks. This year we are trying out renting DVC points but if we weren't we would definitely be staying at POP again.

We stayed at Coronado in September and while it was a perfectly fine resort, our room was in a bit of a need of rehab (lots of chips in the dark wood desk and dresser) and we had terrible experiences with the busing (though I would like to think they will have this worked out by 2016! eek crossfingers ) We also stayed at Caribbean Beach in Oct 2012 and had just a so-so experience there, as well. While we haven't stayed at either of the Port Orleans resorts that both get awesome reviews, based on the two experiences we've had at Moderates I would say save your money and stay at Pop. Neither hotel had anything wrong with it per se, but I wouldn't say either were worth the increased price.

We stayed at Pop for our last trip. This was the first time we had tried it, and we were really happy with our choice. I have a soft spot for POR, but the last trip was a budget trip, so we decided on a Value. We've also stayed at All Star Music a couple of times years ago, but we liked Pop better. We had the best mousekeeping ever there! Plus the bus service seemed really fast. We were in the 50's, overlooking the lake, and it was lovely.

Thanks for the reassurance guys - will definitely be going for Pop and asking for a room in the 50s section. Won't be booking till middle of next year, but it's good to have a plan in mind to make sure everything runs smoothly. mickey

I vote for Pop Century as well. We stayed there last April and loved the place. We'll happily stay there again the next time we're paying out of pocket instead of doing a timeshare exchange into a DVC resort.

My first choice of resorts, after a lot of research, reading reviews, and looking at tons of photos, was Pop. Then, after more planning, I settled on all Star sports. Finally, while on the phone with the Disney reservation people, adding days to our trip to take advantage of the stay, play and dine special, I changed our resort to Pop. The theming really appeals to me and so many reviews I've read recommended it.

The main thing that puts me off staying in an All Star is the one bus for all three. We stayed at AoA last time and found the bus service to be excellent - we never waited too long and once we were on the bus, our journeys were all very quick. I'd be worried about losing that efficiency at an All Star.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Bus service from Pop was amazing. Only on Marathon day did I wait more than ten minutes for a bus!

Pop, in general, exceeded my expectations. The food portions at the cafeteria were more than adequate and I learned you could take your food to your room! They even put little plastic lids on top of the plates for that very purpose. Cast Members were all cheerful and helpful. Hint: ask mousekeeping for extra shampoo and soap. They will give you enough to last till your next trip!

I've stayed at Pop before and I quite enjoyed it. This was back in 2010. The decor is nice but most importantly, I loved having its own designated bus line for every stop. No need to share with others. I think generally speaking from a price point, it's not as expensive compared to Art of Animation but not as cheap as the All-Stars. Also Art of Animation is walking distance away from Pop so if you're not that impressed with Everything Pop food court, a short walk to dine at Landscape of Flavors may be well worth it considering it's gotten great reviews as a really good counter-service spot out of all of the resorts.

I agree! We loved Pop and will be staying there again in November. Just like others have said.... the designated bus, the overall theme and the food court make it awesome (the sundae is huge!) It was just fun.

I love Pop. We stayed at AoA 3 years ago, and it was great. I had no complaints about it at all, but my husband really likes the nostalgia factor of Pop. The food court is good albeit a bit insane at times. All in all, the rooms are very comparable in Pop and AoA. We also spend very little time in the room, so spending a ton of money is insane for us. We love the values for this very reason. The pools are nice and clean and there are three of them to choose from just like AoA.
AoA is a short walk away, so you can always walk over and see the grounds and eat in the food court if you get bored of breakfast at Everything Pop!
We just booked again for October and I did not even consider anything other than Pop.

I'm still leaning towards Pop. I've looked at the moderates and they seem costly for what is available at them. Although I do think the Port Orleans resorts look lovely, I'm not sure if I could justify the extra cost to myself. Decisions...

I had a choice between Pop and AS Sports and chose Pop because of the dedicated bus service. While we'd talking about POP, does anyone know how long the bus ride from POP to MK is?

I would estimate about 15 minutes...maybe 20 if you hit a lot of lights.

Yeah, when we stayed at AoA, I think it was only about 15-20 mins to MK, and the bus service was amazing!
