Pop Century Refurbishment?

Hi all,

I've not been around much as I was busy dealing with my new tiny person. She is now four whole months old! Anyway, I'm hoping to go to Disney around about Eloise's first birthday (September 2017). Before anyone says anything, yes I know she won't remember it, but we will, and we are planning to take her back in a couple of years as well. I'm thinking of Pop Century (I'm on a bit of a budget because of the little one, and Value seems the most reasonable for us), my thoughts being that it's a nice resort with lots of nice colours and shapes for Eloise, but it has a dedicated bus service, as opposed to the All Stars. The only thing putting me off is that it says they're doing refurbishment there next year. Does anyone have experience of staying in a Disney hotel during a refurbishment, and were you at all disturbed by the noise?

I'm looking at around 9 nights, with direct flights to avoid too much airport time for our little one, and I'm planning to factor in lots of chilled resort/pool time to avoid over-stimulating her.

Hi! I stayed at Wilderness Lodge last year right after the construction project started and never had an issue with noise, etc.

The refurb at Pop is room updates in select buildings and they are limiting work hours to 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. I wouldn't think that you would have any issues with noise, etc. Also by September the work might be done.

An additional note: If you want to limit the walking time between your room and Everything Pop (quick service) and bus stops avoid the 1980s/1990s section. Request a room in 1950s or a preferred room in 1960s (although some of those are close to main pool which can be noisy).

Hope this helps a little Smile

That helps a lot. Thanks for the tip on room requests. I think I'd like to stay in 1950s anyway. Smile

For some reason, even being DVC owners, I consider Pop Mine and Joe's resort. It is the first place we stayed when we went together alone. I've also stayed poolside there a couple of times with no issues at all.

The TA refurb page says it will start Feb 2017 You may see or hear work in progress/certain pathways may be unavailable and they will limit work to 9a - 5p

Ditto everyone else. The refurbished are limited to day hours so if you plan on being out and about then it shouldn't be a problem. The only thing I would maybe be worried about is if you plan on coming back for naps. We were really lucky with Penny and on both trips we've taken her on she has napped in the stroller, but I know not every kid will.

We stayed in the 50s section in April and enjoyed the location. You could see fireworks from our building and never felt too far away from the buses, food court, etc.

Great, thanks everyone. Eloise will probably be happy to nap in her stroller, as she does at the moment. Currently I'm looking at booking two weeks in early-mid November (I know I said September, but it means Eloise will be a couple of months older so might get more out of it). Pretty confident I'm gonna go with Pop, because I've been talking about staying there FOREVER, and I don't see the point on splashing out for moderate/deluxe with a one year old - she won't know the difference and it means we can afford to stay for a full two weeks! Flying internationally is a pain, so I want to get the most out of my time there.

Anyhow, my current dates are 5th-19th November and I'm getting a pretty good quote for that, so I might just go for it! As Eloise is only little, we'll take it easy, probably spend a lot of time in Fantasyland, and have a few pool days (hence going for two weeks.)

I'm probably going to book that as soon as Bob gives me the go-ahead. So excited! Laughing out loud

Yay, I'd love that! I haven't booked yet as I'm waiting until we've got our DLP reservations and stuff done. But I expect to book in the next few weeks and it'll definitely be November. That's when we went last time and we loved it, because we got to do both Food and Wine and Christmas. <3

I'm definitely up for a big meetup, since I missed the last one due to bub's arrival.
