Question for those of you who have rented DVC points before

Hi gang! So sadly I have no currently scheduled trips to the world for 2014, but I am planning on taking my niece and nephew back in 2015. Last time we went, it was me, my parents, my brother, sister in-law and the two kids. We stayed in 3 separate rooms at Port Orleans (one of my favorites). This time my DH is going to come along too, and I'm considering renting a 3 bedroom DVC villa at either the Boardwalk or Bay Lake Towers. Here's what I need to know....using the outside rental sites..... How long before my trip can I/should I start the process? Which rental sites have you all used before and would use again? Is there a better/cheaper time of the year to rent points? We usually go in October during F&W fest, but I'm guessing it might be hard to find an available rental at the Boardwalk during F&W. Thoughts?

We just rented points for our Disneymoon at the end of September. I used the DVC Rental Store and I filled out my form as soon as I knew the dates I wanted. They can check availability for you 11 months out and again at 7 months out. There was nothing available at our top choices at the 11 month mark, but the morning of our 7 month mark without me having to email and remind them, our agent Lauren emailed me saying they had availability at BWV which was our top choice. The cost comparison to us staying at POR was actually $80 cheaper to book the DVC with the same ticket package and dining plan. I have heard the Epcot resorts fill up fast during F&W fest, but it doesn't hurt to fill out the request form. If htere is not availability at your top choices they can always check the other resorts as well. Hope this helps and good luck!

Lauren is our agent at DVCrentalstore. She's been wonderful. The first time we used DVCrentalstore we filled out our form at 13 or 14 mos. She got in touch with us right away and explained what she would do ... 11 mos. and 7 mos. We've had luck every time in getting the resort of our choice and accommodations. She's also contacted us days before our trip, during our trip, and again after our trip. Since you are looking at the 3-bedroom, I'd contact them as soon as possible and fill out the form.

We use a travel agency in NY for point rental. When we stayed at the BWV this past trip, I booked our room in November for travel in May. We were forced to pay for a preferred room as everything else was taken. That was 7 months out. May isn't usually that busy either. I would start looking and possibly try to book ASAP to get what you want. I think DVC rental stores are all different about money. Our agency required 100% within 48 hours of booking.

You can look on David's DVC rental website and see what weeks cost more by using his free tool. It all depends on the month! Smile Good luck!

Thanks, Gang. It sounds like its best to start trying right at the 11 months mark. I had originally been thinking maybe the 1st week of March in 2015 but it appears as though October will cost less from a points perspective, and I do love the F&W Fest!

I am actually in the process of renting points through the DVC Rental Store and Lauren is my agent as well. She has been awesome! I have changed my dates twice now and she is always super understanding and friendly. I originally made my request at the 11 month mark but since nothing was available at that time I am anxiously waiting until 7 months (which is this Saturday! yay!) I am excited to try this service and will check back after Saturday to let you know how it goes, but I am optimistic this will work out wonderfully.

Well I just booked my vacation through Lauren at the DVC Rental Store and the experience has been so quick and easy! Our request was for first choice: BWV with a standard studio and second choice: AKL-KV with a deluxe studio. Since we are travelling during Food and Wine, Boardwalk was a long shot. Lauren emailed me the evening before our 7 month mark to let us know that unfortunately our first choice wasn't available but AKL was. I immediately told her we're in! I had to send a $100 refundable deposit to make the reservation, once the reservation was confirmed that $100 went towards our balance. I then had to pay about 60% of our balance up front (minus the $100 deposit) and the rest is due 45 days before our trip. This is nice because looking at other rental sites like David's the full balance would have been due up front which is pretty steep for me. I already linked our reservation to our magic bands on MDE and even was able to let them know through the reservation page that it will be our anniversary. So far I am really really impressed with this company and have no more worries about our vacation being perfect.
