Robson's Riverside Experience- Completed

Hi everyone, this is my first ever trip report so I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have writing it. biggrin Some of you might remember the first post that I did (which feels like forever ago) about booking a surprise trip for my DH, well the surprise didn't last long at all as I ended up telling him the day we booked up. laugh

Introductions; My name is Danielle and my DH name is Johnny, we are 24 from the North East of England and this is our first trip to the world as adults. I have been twice previously the first time in 1999 and the second time in 2004 and I absolutely fell in love with all things Disney. Johnny has been three times, when he was 2, 4 and 6 years old. We are both super excited about this trip as so much will have changed and it will be amazing to experience it as adults
As some of you may know my best friend is Amy1989. I would just like to say a thank you as she is responsible for introducing me to WDWFG, helped me throughout all of the planning process and answered all the questions I had. (There were loads... and loads)

I have tried not to plan too much other than starting the days at a certain park for fast-passes, most of the fast passes I have booked early morning so we can then just take each day as it comes and see where the magic takes us. The one thing I'm sure of is we have the QS dining plan and I plan on eating my way through the world after seeing everyone's lovely pictures.
So let's get into the plan of action!

Wednesday 21st September 2016
Double check we have everything and pack up the car and travel down to Manchester airport, check into the Hilton hotel and check the car in. Have some food and try and get some sleep... we can try!

Thursday 22nd September
Wake up at 6am, get ready and make way to Terminal 1 for 7am. We have a 10:15am flight. We might grab some food depending on how we feel. We are due to land 2:35pm at MCO. Where we will get the magical express to POR. The rest of the day will be spent unpacking, getting refillable mugs and having a look about the resort. If we feel up to it we may try and head over to Disney Springs to get our $200 gift card that was part of our holiday deal or a park but since none of us are really good with sleeping on planes I imagine we will crash pretty early.

Friday 23rd September " Magic Kingdom
Our first day in Disney!!! Woop! Hopefully because of jet lag and time difference we will wake up early and make it to rope drop, we plan at staying at Magic Kingdom all day and it had to be our first park! Our Fast-passes are: Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan's Flight and 7 Dwarfs Mine Train. We have an ADR for Be Our Guest for lunch. We will then most likely explore Magic Kingdom as much as we can but I imagine that we will be feeling the effects of jet lag today so we will see how we get on.

Saturday 24th September " Hollywood Studios
Our first day at Hollywood Studios, our Fast-passes are: Toy Story Midway Mania, Tower of Terror and Star Tours. We have an ADR for Sci-Fi Diner for lunch. We may park hop or check out Disney Springs on the afternoon.

Sunday 25th September " Animal Kingdom/MNSSHP
Our first day at Animal Kingdom, our Fast-passes are: Kilimanjaro Safaris, Festival of the Lion King and Expedition Everest. We have no ADRS for today but at the moment I think we might have lunch at Flame Tree BBQ. We will probably be leaving early afternoon to go back to the hotel and get some rest before heading over to Magic Kingdom for MNSSHP which I am really excited about.

Monday 26th September " Epcot
Our first day at Epcot, our Fast-passes are: Spaceship Earth, Soarin and Living with the Land. We have and ADR for Beaches and Cream at 3pm, so we probably will just grab something to eat in Epcot maybe and early dinner or snack around the Food and Wine festival.

Tuesday 27th September " Water Park/Hollywood Studios
Today we will be starting our day at either Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach we aren't 100% sure which yet, then we plan on going to Hollywood Studios we have Fast-passes for: Start Tours, Tower of Terror and Fantasmic.

Wednesday 28th September " Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure/Magic Kingdom
Today is our first Universal day we have two of these allocated. We are both huge Harry Potter fans so we can't wait to see Hogsmede, Diagon Alley and just experience everything we can. We have booked Fast-passes for Buzz Lightyear, Space Mountain and 7 Dwarfs Mine Train on the night.

Thursday 29th September " Animal Kingdom
Today we have Fast-passes for Kilimanjaro Safaris, Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids (I wanted Dinosaur but I didn't realise it was getting work done ). We have an ADR for Raglan Road for Dinner so we will probably be at Disney Springs for the night.

Friday 30th September " Free Day/Blizzard Beach/Animal Kingdom Night
We have a free day today but will be starting the morning at Magic Kingdom for ADR BOG breakfast, my theory is we can see the park empty and have breakfast and either stay at MK or go where we fancy. We might go shopping on the Itrolley, Gatorland (we got free tickets when we got our Universal/IOA ones and my DH seems quite keen on this), go to a park or Blizzard Beach. I have booked Fastnesses on the night for Expedition Everest and Kilimanjaro Safaris. I haven't booked our third Fast-pass in hope Rivers Of Light will be released by then or at the very least have the Jungle Book show extended.

Saturday 1st October " Shopping/Magic Kingdom
Today is our official shopping day when we will be hitting the outlets and mall's and hopefully getting some good bargains. I have booked Fastpasses for the night for Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and 7 Dwarfs Mine Train.

Sunday 2nd October " Hollywood Studios
Today we have Fast-passes for Toy Story Mania, Frozen Sing-A-Long and Star Tours. We have and ADR at 50's Prime Time for Lunch.

Monday 3rd October " Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure/Epcot
Today is our second day at Universal + IOA, also we are meeting my amazing best friend for Dinner at Wolf Gang Pucks in Disney Springs, I mean we work together and talk everyday so we couldn't be in Disney the same time and not meet up! ha! I have booked a Fast-pass for Test Track on the off chance anything changes. There is talk of a trip to Walmart possibly being on the cards so watch this space.

Tuesday 4th October " Epcot
We have Fast-passes for Character Spot, Mission Space (I am quite nervous about this ride as I do tend to suffer from motion sickness so my DH might be going solo on this or I might brave it with motion sickness bracelets and I have been told to only go on the Green) and lastly Frozen.

Wednesday 5th October " Magic Kingdom
Our last full day in Disney I'm sad already! Today's Fast-passes are Splash Mountain, 7 Dwarfs Mine Train and Space Mountain, with an ADR for BOG lunch. I think we will spend most of our day here today to try and take as much in as possible because we have no idea when we will be able to go back.

Thursday 6th October " Going Home
Today will be packing, checking out. Hopefully we might have time to go to Disney Springs before hand but we will be getting picked up at 12 by Magical Express and our flight home is at 16:35pm sad

I will try my best to make notes when we are there and take plenty photos for my trip report when I come home. I hope you enjoyed this yay

Since this is my first trip report I apologise if I miss anything out or do the opposite and put to much in that isn't relevant or if its total rubbish ha! I should also mention that I can not take credit for the majority of the photos as they are DH's as he was in charge of photography as I suck at it.

Travelling Days

Wednesday 21st September We had a pretty uneventful trip down to Manchester airport we left around noon and we decided not to stop so got there about 4ish if my memory serves. We checked in at the Hilton and sorted out checking the car in for the long stay. We stayed here last year before we flew out on our Honeymoon and I recommend it to anyone going on a long haul flight. We chilled out in the room for a bit and had a shower and decided to go for food. The meal was lovely a perfect way to start off the holiday.

IMG_4566

DH had calamari and I had garlic foccacia bread

IMG_4567

DH had a meat feast pizza and I had pesto and roasted vegetable pizza.

After food we went back to the room and watched the bake off and decided to have an early night as we would be up early for our 10:15 flight. We were getting picked up by the shuttle bus at 7:30.

Thursday 22nd September We woke up and got ready and double checked everything was packed up from the room. We went out to the front and handed in the car keys and waited out front for the shuttle. We got to the airport and made our way to the Thomas Cook check in, we got straight through as I had previously decided to pay PS30 for us to get the priority package which meant we had a separate check in, got to board the plane early and our bags would be first to be get unloaded. Normally I wouldn't have bothered but when we flew out for our honeymoon they just had every single flight for the same airline in one big queue and we ended up rushing around and I didn't want to do that this time... over all I think it was really worth it and would definitely do it again. We had a wander round the duty free and went to WHS smiths and got some water and sweets for the plane then went to Starbucks and watched the planes from the window. We were delayed going out but not massively. The flight itself was great, we had to pay PS10 so we could get access to the full content of films and movies and I watched The Boss, How to be single and The Dressmaker. The food was lovely and I tried to sleep but couldn't get over. When we were flying down from Canada we experienced turbulence for about 30mins but other than that the flight was great and when you looked out of the window it was really clear. Here's some pictures DH took over Canada and then New York.

IMG_4883 IMG_4894

We landed and got pretty much straight through security and got our bags. We made our way through the airport in awe of the size of it and how smooth and easy the process was. We followed the signs for DME and checked in. It was only when we were about to board the magical express I noticed that DH's Disney tag wasn't on his case. We checked the number for the padlock and it didn't work it, it was the same make, colour and same priority stickers but the lock didn't budge. We clicked that we took the wrong case and panic started to set in, we explained to the woman at the DME and ended up going up and down the airport trying to find help. Unfortunately most of the staff was unhelpful just pointing us in one direction and someone else the other direction, I should probably mention that my DH has anxiety issues so he was going his ends. I decided to ask the lost and found and she didn't know what we would need to do but gave me the number for Thomas Cook, as soon as I rang, the woman on the other end of the phone was amazing! She told us exactly where to go and how to get there and said she would ring ahead and let them know we were coming. So we went where we needed to be and a lovely woman helped us get it sorted. Luckily our bag was still there and the gentleman's we took in error was still there. Overall took about 2 hours so we were exhausted. What a start to the holiday! We got the magical express to our resort and were awe struck, I mean I had seen tons of pictures but it's just so beautiful! We got checked in by a lovely cast member who ran through everything we needed to know and gave us our magic bands.

IMG_4912 IMG_4915 IMG_4918

We had a slow walk over to our room and sitting on the table was a surprise... well for DH I ordered it to surprise him from Disney's floral and gifts. The bag itself came in very handy later on!

IMG_4919 IMG_4611

Since we had been up for so long now, we just ditched the bags and went in a search for food. This was the first night DH got the large pepperoni pizza which we discovered was for two and this is the best pizza we have ever had, I got make your own pasta but didn't really eat much due to my IBS kicking off but I expected as much with being up for so long.

IMG_4574

We got our refillable mugs and went back to the room and crashed!

Friday 23rd September - Magic Kingdom

I woke up very early today and just played on my phone until DH woke up... I should add I was staring holes in his head for him to wake up and he did... eventually. We got ready and got to Magic Kingdom for around 8:15am. We took everything pretty slow on the morning just trying to take everything in. We couldn't believe how empty it was.

IMG_4968

IMG_2394

I went through bag search and sent DH on without me where he got randomly selected to go through the metal detectors (I mention this now so I won't have to mention it later we both got RANDOMLY selected nearly every day of our holiday, not that I minded really, we just laughed and used to bet who would get picked me or him).

IMG_2396

We entered the park and were both astounded at the fact we were actually here... nearly 2 years in the planning and we were here.! We waited in line on Main Street and in front of the castle for some magic shots whilst slowly looking at the shop fronts deciding to look in them later on.

MK_PARTRIGHT_20160923_7810654933

IMG_2449

It got hot very quickly so we got some water from a stall in fantasyland and decided that our first ride should be it's a small world as it's his mam's favourite and my mam hates it. We had the strangest nostalgic feeling when we walked in it was incredible, unfortunately this was the only time we actually rode it as we kept meaning to go back on it but never got round to it.

We decided to wander round some more to get our bearings and jumped on POTC which we both loved. It was then time for the first fast pass which was supposed to be Haunted Mansion, we checked in and stood in the queue and noticed people leaving although the wait time was only posted as 20 mins. We waited and over heard people saying the ride was broke down. We decided to wait 5 minutes and see if it would get going but more and more people were leaving so we spoke to the cast member who told us to try again later that day. We went back round to adventure land and stood in line for Jungle Cruise, we were stood for about 20 minutes and we were just about 3/4 the way to the front when I started feeling very sick, we left and I ran to the bathroom and the feeling passed when I had cooled down in the air con, this is when we remembered that we hadn't had anything to eat since the night before! Our BOG adr was not due till later on so we had a look about and got our first of many dole whips, I got the cup and DH got the float. This was our new favourite thing to eat, talk about love at first bite!

IMG_4582

I felt better straight away and was raring to go and by this time we could use our second fast pass so off we went to Peter Pan's flight, I remembered that I loved this ride when I was little and it didn't disappoint I loved it and DH thought it was cute and fun. We were about an hour out for BOG so we went on Mickeys Philarmagic which I thought was brilliant we sat more to the right side so didn't get the full affect but we corrected this later in the holiday when we decided to hang back and let others go ahead of us.

At this point we were both starving so really looking forward to dinner and because we were clock watching the time was going so slowly, we wandered around Gaston's fountain and got some pictures and then went on under the sea whilst we were on it the ride stopped for about a minute and then started again which was strange and then it was time for BOG!
DH had the croque monsieur and I had the pork, he chose the masters cupcake and I got the chocolate. We both enjoyed our mains but I think I was too full to do the cupcake any justice, this seemed to be an on-going issue for us with the desserts we were always full after the mains that we struggled with desserts... and anyone who knows me knows I basically have one big sweet tooth!

IMG_4584

After lunch we went used our final FP on 7DMT we both loved this but I agree with everyone else it was quite short and also my lovely husband discovered he could rock the cart and since I am sea sick I really didn't appreciate it! We decided we would see if HM was back up and running, there were short queues on either side, we asked the CM they said it was so we got back in the FP line. About 5 minutes passed the lines hadn't moved and we noticed again people leaving so we decided to give up and try another day. We ventured back to Jungle cruise and got on with around 10-15 minutes wait. Our skipper was Jungle Jim and he was so good with the worst puns I have ever heard but the whole boat was in stitches and he got his applause at the end.

We made our way to splash mountain and on our way there caught festival of fantasy parade starting, we were planning on catching this later in the trip but since we were literally trapped where we stood we stood and gazed in amazement at all the amazing bright colours, we both loved it and I got a wave from Pinocchio! This made my day!

IMG_4601

IMG_2528

Once we got over to SM it was pretty low lines and we walked all the way to the top of the ramp down and then only waited about 5 minutes, this turned out to be one of our favourite rides that we tried to go on every time we went to Magic Kingdom.

IMG_5053

After SM I managed to get a 4th FP for Space Mountain, now I have a totally different memory of this ride, I last rode it in 2004 and I have very vivid memories of me and my Uncle being unimpressed on the way round and we were laughing and talking on it so I was worried DH wouldn't enjoy it and I wasn't expecting to, I was even thinking that the announcements about the ride and motion sickness were over exaggerated... I can now say I was very wrong, it was pitch black which I don't remember it being that dark, or that fast, or all the twists and turns... I came off and felt very disorientated but we both loved it! We were going to leave after Space but we spotted that Buzz Lightyear was only 10 minute wait and it was the ride that DH remembers the most as the ride he loved when he came when he was younger, we both enjoyed it and I won so I obviously accepted my win graciously and did not rub it in his face... because I wouldn't do such a thing. We decided to check out carousel of progress both leaving singing the song and decided to leave as we could see the increase in crowds for the Halloween party.

We went back to the hotel and rested a while before deciding we were not as tired as we expected so we decided to go to Disney Springs, we chose to get the boat over so I put on my motion sickness bands (I was wearing one earlier at MK I forgot to mention) as it turns out I didn't need them as the boat was so calm and only moved slightly when another boat passed, this was one of our favourite things to do whilst we were there as it was so relaxing.

IMG_2543

We had a wander around but opted not to buy anything with it being our first day and chose D-luxe burger for dinner which we both really enjoyed, the honey mustard sauce was amazing! We left feeling stuffed and went over and chose to get the bus back to the hotel where we crashed.

Saturday 24th September - Hollywood studios

If I remember correctly we were up and at the Hollywood Studios for about 9:15am and it was quite busy already. I put it down to being a Saturday. We took some pictures and explored the shops and bought some gifts. It was strange without the hat but I like the view with the theatre. We got the map out and started to walk towards TSMM for our first FP.

IMG_2566

IMG_2587

It was our first experience of TSMM, this was so much better than Buzz, we both got Beavers but Johnny beat me on this one so it took us to 1-1, since I won at Buzz. It was still a while till our next FP so we checked DME app for wait time as we wanted to do Aerosmith but it was 60 mins wait, instead we walked on to the great movie ride.

We started to walk over to TOT for our next fastpass and caught the Star Troopers marching.

IMG_2595

IMG_2611

When we got to TOT and went into the room at the beginning it was just as it was in 2004 like I remember so I started feeling nostalgic and just as the film ended on the TV someone screamed and made everyone jump and laugh. I was really looking forward to this but was unsure if it was just because I was older now but I am sure that it went higher up and stopped longer so you had time to look over the park at how high you were before it dropped? I might be making that up as it was 12 years ago, maybe I was remembering wrong? At this point we were really feeling the heat so went and got two sprites and just sat in the shade for a while until we could get on our last FP Star Tours.

IMG_2626

We both came off with smiles on our faces we loved it, I can't remember the scenario we were given this time round. It was nearly time for our ADR at Sci-fi diner so we headed over that way and checked in we had about a 10 minute wait and got taken through. I loved the theme of this with the cars and the CM we had serving us was lovely, she took our order, DH had the rib-eye steak and I ordered the turkey sandwich and she asked if I wanted sweet potato fries so I said yes thinking nothing of it but when it came the fries had cinnamon dusted on them, which I didn't realise and I don't like cinnamon. I ate half the sandwich and some fries from the bottom and they both delicious, DH loved his steak! Unfortunately I let the side down I got full really quickly so I didn't do my meal much justice. We left sci-fi and decided to call it a day there and head back to POR.

IMG_2631

IMG_2633

I didn't get a picture of my food for some reason.

IMG_2634

We decided to head back over to Disney springs to experience it during the day. We bought some gifts and explored and opted to have dinner at Riverside mill. If my memory serves we got the pizza to share.

IMG_2647

We saw this little guy under one of the bridges.

That is awesome! I haven't seen crowds that low in a long time. Our honeymoon/1st anniversary trip was like that too and crowds have increased a ton since that time!

That's odd about the cinnamon on the sweet potato fries. I don't mind cinnamon and I know it goes with sweet potato, but I'm not sure I would have liked them on my savory side with my burger.

Thanks! I couldn't get over how quiet it was for our first week, it started to pick up again the second week. But the longest we ever waited to get on a ride for the full holiday was 25 mins.

I thought it was really strange but I was thinking is it an American thing that I didn't know about but maybe not then... hmmm

I know I couldn't get over the crowds my DH has little no patience so had warned him about waits and luckily we got round really well Smile

YESSSSS! I am getting there! Heck, mine is just a southern accent and I occasionally get asked what I'm talking about! LOL

Enough of this talk... Back to the trip report!
