Saving Mr. Banks

Hi all! So I've been a little bit lukewarm on Saving Mr. Banks.

Mary Poppins was my absolute favorite movie as a child (my mother tells me that I once watched it 16 times in a row, refusing to watch anything else in between), so I was soooo excited to hear this subject material announced. Then I heard that Tom Hanks was cast as my idol Walt Disney and I cringed. I love Tom Hanks, but his face and voice are so distinctive. I was worried that he could never make me believe that he was Walt.

Well, I just cried watching the two and a half minute trailer...I think it's going to be ok! Anyone else looking forward to December 20 more than Christmas this year?!

I can't wait to see it! I'm just nervous about how they portray the author. The author of the book didn't like the movie at all and didn't want Disney produce any more movies about her books.

SO excited for this movie! I haven't seen the trailer yet, though...I'll have to youtube it when I get home tonight.

I'm so excited for it. We've gotta wait till February in Australia for it so hopefully it will be worth the extra wait. I love Mary Poppins. Tom Hanks looks pretty good as Walt, and at least you know he's going to be a good actor. The funny thing is Pamela Travers seems to have a rather British accent for someone born in Australia. wink

Hello all just to let you know that we saw saving mr banks on Friday and it was wonderful, there's not a great deal of Walt in it but hanks is amazing as are the BJ and Jason playing the Sherman brothers. This really is a must see for any disney or poppings fan.

Top tip get pop corn to eat during the disneyland scene.

Also on another note the film is extremely sad.

I didn't find the film sad, but I must admit there was one part that brought a tear to my eye at the end. I found the majority of the film to be really really funny and witty. It took me a bit to warm up to Tom Hanks as Walt, but he had me by the time he took her to Disneyland. "Get on the horse Pam" may be one of my new favorite movie one liners. awesome

When I first found out that Tom Hanks was going to portray Walt, I wasn't sure. I've seen pictures of Tom dressed as Walt next to Walt himself at the time, they do look a like which made me happy. Now I need to see the film.

Honestly, he didn't have me at first and he had a really strong southern accent. However midway the voice changed and I bought into it. By the end of the movie, when he does his big monologue if you closed your eyes you would swear it was Walt. He was dead on in that part.

I really do think that Tom was a great fit. I mean if not him then who else would of been a good fit?

laugh I have no idea! I really can't think of anyone better. I think he was fantastic and for the vast majority of folks absolutely perfect. I'm just abnormal, and have excessive Disney knowledge rambling around my brain.

Do you really think that he looks like him?

Okay maybe not so much. lol But I mean, Tom does resemble Walt. The only other actor that I would choose for Walt would be Ryan Gosling for a young Walt. I saw a movie poster a while ago with Ryan on it and boy did he look like Walt.

I enjoyed it and thought it was a good movie. I kept wishing I could do something to get access like that for Angels. Since there are people who cant see it until later this year I wont say what my favorite part was for now.

So I guess I should weigh in again now that I've seen the movie twice muchlove

I love it. The first time through, I wasn't sure. There is beautifully developed conflict, but very little action and long spaces with only visual emoting. This usually doesn't work for me because I'm a very auditory movie watcher. Visuals are important to me, but not nearly as important as dialog and music to move the story forward and help me to connect with it. Also, I was in the camp of folks who were very skeptical about the choice of Tom Hanks and while I don't think that Hanks definitely nailed the role, I do appreciate his portrayal and I can accept him as Walt Disney. I think that some of my problem with accepting Hanks at first was actually because of how AMAZING Emma Thompson was as P.L. Travers. Also, I thought that Colin Farrell, Jason Schwartzman, and B.J. Novak were fabulous.

We saw the movie today and I cried just basically on the fact of how moved I was from the movie! Walt Disney's life and ability to reach people when he was physically here and even today continues to amaze me. I think if we had more people like him in this world today it would be a different place.

There were so many moving moments but when he talked about his mouse it really got me!! Mickey had several profound moments in the film mickey

There are few movies I will purchase but I will definitely add this one to my collection!! muchlove

Really really wanna see it. Apparently it starts in Australia on this Thursday the 9th but the online cinema sessions are showing only select cinemas in the capital cities, which doesn't help when I don't live near there. So I'm kinda getting worried that I might not get to see it till it comes out on dvd Sad( .It was meant to be out in early Feb though so maybe they decided only select cinemas till then. Just wish they would say select cinemas on the ad that i see torturing me on Facebook every day.

My husband and I saw it tonight. I was crying, laughing, and clapping through out the entire movie (with an emphasis on crying). It was very moving and very deep. I can't wait to buy it and watch it over and over again. There were incredible details, like a map of Florida on Walt's office wall. We weren't expecting it to tug on our heart strings so much. I was choked up for about an hour AFTER the movie let out.

Is it the map that is on Walt's office wall in One Man's Dream (HS)?

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I loved "Saving Mr. Banks". I cried and laughed and wished I was planning a trip to Disneyland. I need to make a pilgrimage to the place where it all began. I will definitely be going back to see it again.

My Brother and I saw this movie on December 21st and again about a week ago. And both times, I cried and felt so moved by this movie. There was so much that hit home with my own personal story that it was moving and touching. The whole thing was like a healing process of my own, along with Helen Goff. I think Emma Thompson, as well as Annie Rose Buckley, did an amazing job. And Tom Hanks is one of my favorites, so he could do no wrong in my opinion.
But I loved this movie. It has become favorite of mine. Just thinking about it brings a smile and tears to my face.
