So you know how Disney can just slip into a conversation.

My sister is two weeks from having her first baby. This weekend we were attending all of the baby showers. sarcastic My cousin was telling my mom that they have been lying to their 3 year old and saying that the Disney Store is Disney World and since she is only 3 she doesn't notice anything different. Well my mom quickly came to me to see where my 3 year old was and sure enough she was telling her cousin all about the REAL Disney World. Because of course she is an expert and all laugh She was telling her about having breakfast with Mickey and Minnie and eating in the Castle with Cinderella. She was also talking about riding Dumbo and watching the fireworks. Then she said we are going next month when are you going again. eek

Yeah we are those people sarcastic You can't take us anywhere. laugh Well except Disney World of course. yay

Actually I had to laugh....we were at the Disney Store today getting Brooklin some stuff for her birthday. I hear a mom and little girl walk by and I hear the little girl scream "it's disney world, it's disney world" And the mom goes "yes hunny it is...do you want to go in and you can tell all your friends you went to Disney world". I immediatly thought of this post and just had to shake my head. LOL

Oh my gosh! Is this actually a common thing that people do to avoid taking their kids to Disney!?!

Let me tell ya, this thread has become a topic of conversation in our house and everyone is absolutely horrified! Why on earth would parents do this? I'm baffled, just baffled. Are there any other examples of this people know about?

Well can you imagine if you were in the situation that you could probably never afford to take your kids to WDW (we all know it's expensive)? What would you do? I'm not saying lie to your kids but I get it. My little cousins just always called the Disney Store - Disney world. It was done on their own. My Aunt never corrected them, she knew once they figured out the truth it was all over from there.

It's awful cute that the kids came up with that on their own. Smile Sure, I know it can be expensive and not everyone can afford to go, but no, I wouldn't let them think that I store was a theme park if I knew the difference. We had a ten year stretch that we couldn't go during my kids younger years. That didn't keep us from talking about it or watching videos or planning and saving for a "some day" trip.

I think a lot of people don't understand how affordable Disney can be. Sure if you stay Deluxe and get all the extras it can cost you but you can do it cheaply and people don't realize that. At that same shower my aunt asked how we could afford to go there isn't that the home of the $25 coke and everything. I said don't you go to the Bahamas at least 2 times a year. Then you can afford to go to Disney. Some prices are high but not like people say. Most people don't realize for just $200 dollars or so you can put a deposit on your vacation. That's how we do it then we pay on it each month til its paid off. Trust me we are not wealthy by any means but we afford it each year without it breaking us. Its all in how its planned and how its paid.

That is exactly how we do it as well. Being DVC members, one of the biggest items is taken care of and thats our room. Once we book. We immediately start saving for airfare, because thats the next expense that pops up. After that we book our ADR's, and start saving for our park tickets and spending money, and then were good to go. We try to pay for our park tickets with a month and a half left, and then the rest of the time we save for our spending money for food and extra fun stuff.

Granted.... we don't take any other vacations during the year. Disney is it for us. We don't go anywhere special over the summer or anything. But we love our Disney trips.
