Staying Off Disney Property?

So we were talking about getting more trips in with cheaper accommodations. I'm sure some of you have stayed off Disney property at least once. Would you do it again? Anyone swear by it? I've only stayed on property, for various reasons, and I tend to doubt I'd ever stay off property.

Absolutely have stayed off property. Several times. You can get significantly cheaper accommodations off-property (even vacation homes and big, multi-bedroom condos) that are very, very nice. I wouldn't suggest staying off-property in a chain motel, simply because I've never had great experiences in Orlando cheapie motels. But I think the Hotel Plaza Blvd resorts are really nice, and, like I said, those vacation homes/condos can be great.

Another suggestion--if you won't be doing Disney every single day, think about do half your stay on-property, then getting a condo on one of the beaches for a few days to relax.

I don't necessarily recommend staying off property, however I will say when I've gone to Hawaii, some of the nicest stays I've had were when I and some friends rented a condo. It was cheaper AND way nicer.

A condo could be nice if your trip isn't Disney centered, but otherwise I say stay on property and maximize your pixie dust exposure.

If I'm going to Disney, I want the TOTAL Disney experience, and that includes the hotel. From my perspective, I'd rather go fewer times and spend a little more to stay on site when I DO go than stay off property. But thats just me.

I tend to agree with MT, however, if you go more often you do increase your odds of happening to hit one of those awesome weeks when no one is there and you have the parks to yourself, which are GREAT in my book.
