Universal Resorts

Wow, Universal makes it really hard to find out information about their hotels. I know they have some, but they never really entered into my mind as an option. I tried to search for them and was having no luck. Does anyone know anything about the hotels at Universal Studios?

I saw Samantha Brown do a thing about Portofino Bay on the Travel Channel once. It looks really nice, but I'm not sure how it compares to the Disney properties.

Isn't there also one called Royal Pacific?

Oh, and the hard rock hotel is there, too.

I've heard good things about the Hard Rock hotel. I am not sure if they do this anymore but back when they first opened up I believe they allowed dogs in some of the rooms. We had some friends who would go to Disney but stay at HR so they could stay with their dog.

Every time I look at advertising for Universal I always feel like I'm clearly not their target market. I think I'm right smack in the middle of the Disney demo.

If staying at that end of town it would have to be the Hard Rock Hotel for me.

I looked into staying in one of their hotels in August while I'm there but they are soooo expensive for my budget and I couldn't find any discounts anywhere like I did for Disney... The line hop option sounds phenomenal! I'm at the double tree instead. I guess it's best. I'd rather save the $$ for some Disney specialties instead.

Line hop!?!? (I'm showing my Universal Studios ignorance again)

They have a bunch of fee-based options to get in a shorter line. For example you can get one that allows you to ride each big ride once in the short line, or pay more for all day. When I went, there were a lot of surly people that payed for that for nothing. If you are going to consider that, make sure it'll be busy enough to be worthwhile.

Did you guys know that the entire Hard Rock empire is owned by the Seminole Nation (as in the tribe)?

I never complain when lines are short, even if I paid to skip them! laugh

We're thinking about trying to sneak one day in at one of these on our next trip to see what they're like. I have a real reluctance towards anything branded "Hard Rock" though, but it sounds like that's the best reviewed one. Should I just swallow my aversion to all things "Hard Rock" and stay there?

Think guitar pop rather than heavy metal and you'll get the idea a bit better.

My aunt, her duaghter, and grandchildren loved it. I think it's a lot different than the one is Vegas which is the only one I have been too lol. May be worth it for the hotel-park benefits.

How was the Vegas one?

Much too raunchy for my taste. HUGE party place. I like the nightlife but I like to go visit it, not stay in it. biggrin I'm more of a Mandalay Bay girl when in Vegas.

No kidding? I had NO idea about that! Thanks for the tip.

I never thought about staying at the Hard Rock, but now that it's getting rave reviews, I might consider it!
