Walt Disney World Honeymoon

HI everybody!!!! I am new to the forum and I an NOT engaged yet but my boyfriend and I want to go to WDW for our honeymoon in the future in January and we are thinking about staying in the Contemporary Resort. Is there any advice at all about going in January, the Contemporary Resort, and other WDW experiences for honeymooners. Also, i am worried about weather and some attractions being closed due to taking down Christmas lights. Thank You. mickey

Hi LoveDisney! I think the Contemporary is a great choice. My husband and I stayed there just under two years ago to celebrate our 40th birthdays. We got a MK view room, and it was so romantic to watch the fireworks from our balcony at night. Plus, being within walking distance to the MK is also a huge plus. We loved it. With regards to January, its hit or miss. One year when I went in January, it was cool in the morning but warmed up nicely by the afternoon, and then another time it was a bit chilly. The crowd levels are relatively low in January, and we did enjoy that a lot!

welcome LoveDisney!!! A Disney Honeymoon would be awesome!! Me and my fiance' struggled for a while on if we should go or not. We both really want to go but we also really want to go to Jamaica. Sooooo we decided to go to Jamaica and then a few months later we want to go to Disney. You will love Disney! Hopefully He will pop the question soon so you can go and tell us all about it!!

Welcome to our little world here LoveDisney. We go every year in January, usually the last week or so, always a week aft MLK Day just to miss the crowds also if you go the first week you usually hit the RunDisney stuff. I'd recommend the last week for low crowds. We are from PA, so the temps usually don't bothers us, if its a little chilly we get by, at least it's not n the 90's and 110% humidity! The Contemporary is a nice resort, get a MK view if its in your budget, we had one our last trip and going to again in July. Again welcome

Thank you nsaunier and mrhub for your comments.
We are already agreed upon the Contemporary Resort with the MK view. crossfingers We desided to have the honeymoon in January because my boyfriend hates the heat and i don't want him to be miserable in the sun. I love the heat but he hates it and i want him to have a good time without complaining about the heat. I haven't even thought about it being crowded around MLK holiday. But we were planning about going towards the end of January anyway. Also what tips would you give about honeymooning at WDW. I know i'm not even engaged yet but i love to "plan" ahead.

We "Disneymooned" in January 05. We were married on the 29th and at WDW on the 31st. We stayed at POR, the weather was great. A little cold some nights, but good.

Here is a screen shot from my phone from this January when we were there. Weather was AWESOME! We went the last week of Jan / 1st week of Feb. I am sooo glad we did Disney for our honeymoon. It was so much fun! Crowds were light, some rides had no lines and we were able to ride over and over without getting off. Of course, we went the same week this year and it was not nearly as empty. But it was not packed either.

Disney is a wonderful honeymoon destination, so I've heard--I'll let you know more in three weeks or so when we get back from ours! Wink (I'm getting married in a week and a half!!). When I get back I'll be sure to give you any honeymoon tips--regardless, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time! I can't wait to hear about your proposal too...hope it's coming soon! My fingers are crossed for you! crossfingers

We just went this past January for the week after the marathon and it was PERFECT weather, if not a little chilly in the mornings! You'll have a ton of fun!

Eat Well, Watch the fireworks from in front of the Castle, Sleep In, Don't worry about time or how much you can pack in, just enjoy the trip and each other.

And make sure to get the free "Happily Ever After" pins at your hotel or guest services! They let others know you're on your honeymoon and I've heard you get a lot of congratulations throughout your day and sometimes even special desserts at the sit-down restaurants!

I second what Kat said about the buttons. Make sure you ask for them and wear them everywhere! Its awesome when everyone congratulates you as you're walking around the park. Not to mention, we got a few freebies and some good tables at restaurants because we had them on.

We did this last year when we were there in February for our honeymoon and we got lots of congrats, a few free yummy eats and to top it off, a few times we were even treated to private rides on some of the big attractions! Disney just knows how to make a vacation special! awesome

We got a fantastic dessert at Fulton's for free, and a card congratulating us signed by a ton of people. I am assuming they were all staff, and probably pre-signed so that no one had to stop during a busy time to add a signature. But it was really cool!

We also splurged on La Nouba and booked seats pretty close to the front. I knew DH would never want to do it, but it was our honeymoon, so I knew he would splurge. At least that one time, to humor me. It was my honeymoon too. laugh

We were just there for our 8th Anniversary, and wore the Happy Anniversary buttons. We got Happy Anniversary all day long, from a lot of folks, not just CM's. And we got The Grey Stuff!! wink

They still have just married buttons floating around. You could ask for those when you do have a honeymoon.

Mandy if you can find " just married" buttons from Disney World, you better grab them because they were discontinued and changed to the Happily Ever After buttons a while ago. Everyone is trying to get their hands on the Just Married buttons with no success. You can't even find them on e-bay from Disney World.

But don't count on them. The "Just Married" buttons are extremely rare these days... No one should count on getting them. The more inclusive "Happily Ever After" buttons are the standard that are being given out.

My boyfriend just got the part time job that we've been waiting for so we're waiting maybe for 2 yrs or so before he could get the full time before he proposes.
