What's your guess on cruising's popularity?

I feel like I'm hearing about DCL and cruising in general less lately. Do you think that's a function of the economy? Has cruising jumped the shark?

I'm hearing about a LOT of Disney websites booking "group cruises" on the Disney Dream and the other new ship, but I haven't heard a lot about random Disney cruising.

Interesting, though, because didn't they just introduce a lot of new countries to their destinations lists?

I feel like they went on a cruise glut during the boom and so now they have overcapacity for the bust. I'm actually surprised you're not hearing about deals, deals, deals. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.

I think that the Disney cruises are just too expensive. Sad
I know they have perks that other cruise lines don't have but it's hard for me to justify spending hundreds more on a Disney cruise than another cruise line. I've looked into cruises before but we've never done one. I did a few as a kid but Dave never has and he's not a huge fan of deep water..so we are both afraid we might not like cruising and then we'd be stuck on a boat for a few days.

I agree, Disney cruises are much more expensive than the other lines but if you travel off season, you can get a decent deal. I'm hoping to save enough pennies for a future Disney cruise even though I know I'm overpaying.

I guess it's the same thing with staying at Disney. You know you are wayyyy
overpaying for a room in the middle of the Orange groves and swamps but people do it everyday gladly, including me. Just outside the gates are much more superior resorts yet we still stay onsite. mickey

I know what you mean. I've never stayed at the Grand Floridian, but I have to say that the Disney Deluxe experience doesn't compare in terms of service, amenities, etc to some of the nice hotels nearby. That being said the magic goes a long way. It's hard to compete with having Animals outside your room or a giant totem pole in the lobby etc. Plus I really like to be "inside the bubble." So in the end it's worth it to me.

Hi,

I don't hear a lot about cruising, probably because of the economy, but people are still cruising. My brother and his wife cruised the Panama Canal earlier this year, and I'm going on a 12-night southern Caribbean cruise, sailing from Baltimore on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, with a friend and his parents from the end of February to the middle of March, 2011. Nothing Disney planned; in fact it's been three years since I visited WDW.

Since I was at WDW in 2007 I have been to Canada twice, to Pittsburgh, to Washington, and to the Great Wolf Lodge in Scotrun, PA (the Poconos). Most of my vacation time--such as today--has been close to home. This morning I went to church for a men's prayer time; to drop off my choir robe at the dry cleaner; to have blood drawn because my bilurubin (sp? has something to do with the liver) is above normal, and for an Egg McMuffin at McDonald's. This afternoon I will probably watch the NLCS game three between the Phillies and Giants.

Ciao,

Jim

Does anyone know if the deals are better than usual right now?
