Would You Pay Full Price Under Construction?

There is a LOT of construction going on at the Grand Floridian right now. It has been going on for the past year and looks to stretch until fall 2013. As much as Disney tries to hide the refurbishments, it's just hard to ignore the walls and noise. At the Grand Floridian I feel like it really distracts from the beauty and elegance of the entire resort. I think I would be very disappointed if I stayed there right now.

My questions to you are these, would you be willing to pay full price for your hotel room if you knew that the resort had a lot of construction going on? Do you feel it's better to do small sections of repairs one at a time, or to get it all done at once? Would you rather avoid that resort all together and stay at a different resort?

I really do not want to pay full price at anytime. I do book at full rack rate though and hope for the best. So far we have been lucky enough to manage to get a discount. I do not think we would change our reservations even if we did not end up with a discount though. I can honestly say that my love for the Poly is enough that I would rather stay there even during construction that stay someplace else. As far as how they should do the construction, I think both ways have pros and cons.

I would say as long as the area you are staying in is normal and the path to and from there is mostly normal... then I dont see an issue. I kinda look at it as construction around a city. They do it at the worst of times, and we dont get anything from it. Now.... if im sleeping or trying to rest and there is banging and clanging... ill probably do something about it, but overall... I dont see a problem.

Well, the way I see it:

1) There is no way to make construction look elegant.
2) If your worried about construction, you shouldn't stay there in the first place.
3) if you book knowing there is construction, don't complain if it bothers you and say Disney is ruining your vacation.

Blunt but to the point!

I agree with all of you. If I knew there was going to be construction at the resort I chose I would definitely change my ressie to another resort.

Riding by on the monorail I was struck by all of the people who scheduled their dream wedding with FTW @ the wedding pavilion having to deal with the construction. I agree I wouldn't pay full price in general but to the point of the question: Absolutely not. It is disney's responsibility to provide a magical experience to their guests. They shut down the gym and spa between GF and Poly for the new construction - if you want to go to the gym you need to hop a monorail to the Contemporary. On it's face that isn't a big deal until they were one-up'd by the people managing the yacht & beach club. The gym @ the Yacht & Beach was actually move over to the Solarium in the Beach Club which was a much better choice than doing nothing and telling everyone they needed to head over to The Boardwalk.

The point being: Disney is magical and management needs to provide it regardless. If there is a decision to shut down a pool then something needs to be done to give the guest that missing value. If you are staying at the beach club and stormalong bay is closed: That is a significant reduction in value for staying at the beach club. If the pools and market are closed at the GF then some sort of remuneration needs to be provided for that loos of value and magic. To assume that we, the customer, are staying at these Deluxe resorts "just cuz" is whacky. If there is something closed, planned eyesores or other value-reducing and avoidable events occurring then that needs to be reflecting in the stay. Be it a discount, tickets, meal vouchers, whatever. they chose to expand DVC @ GF and caused the issue voluntarily. They know this is an issue which is why they put facades up ALL OVER the place when they are doing maintenance in the parks. It allows you to see the rabbit in the hat before you are supposed to or the handkerchief sticking out of the sleeve: The magic is gone, especially if you are paying $500-$1000 a night to stay there.
