Your favorite not-so-popular dining spot

So reading LifeIsForLivings' planning thread and talking about The Plaza got me thinking about my favorite Disney restaurant that is not the one you have to get up at 7 a.m. on your 180th day out to make an ADR for...

Mine is Grand Floridian Cafe. We found this totally by accident. We were headed out of MK on a totally crazy day in June. We were hot and ready to sit and be away from people. We were going to hit up Capn' Jacks in the Poly for some lunch and sit by the beach when we decided to check out The GF (we'd never been) and see what it was like first. I remember reading an old TR about someones fabulous lunch at the GFC so when I saw I insisted we eat there...
Oh...my...goodness..

The Grand Sandwich..Open-faced hot Ham, Turkey, Bacon, and
Tomato with a rich Boursin Cheese Sauce and Fried Onion Straws 11.99

I don't know what Boursin Cheese is made from but I do know that it is a tiny piece of heaven right on a sandwich. Yum!

So do you have one??

I'd say Morocco is a restaurant that's pretty popular with the crowd here, but not necessarily so much on a wider basis. Tangierine (sp) Cafe is even more liked by our lot.

We would get along nicely! I have to hit the Tangerine Cafe at least once or twice!! What do you like from there? The Chicken Schwarma Platter blows my mind. They took it off the menu once and I almost had a heart attack..but according to some friends it was still there when they went last time.

Love the grand sandwich story! I've heard lots of good and a little bit of bad about the gf cafe, so it's good to hear your review!

I think my favorite underappreciated restaurant would be yak and yeti. Delicious and interesting food, but not too busy...

Wow...San Angel Inn!

When you eat there last time and what's your favorite food (dish) that you ever eat there?

I have eaten at Tangerine Cafe few months ago; it has huge variety of delicious foods. Have you eaten there?

Best Regards,

I don't know if Liberty Tree Tavern would qualify as "not so popular," but I'd definitely call it underrated. And it's one of my favorite places to eat in WDW, bar none.

Does Olivia's at Old Key West count as not so popular?

We'll be hitting Olivia's in just a little over a week. We'll be doing a short stay at Old Key West next week.

I think it does count as "not so popular" but only because I find that Old Key West itself is not so popular, especially among the non DVC set.

I'd say Artist's Palette at SSR is my favorite "not so popular" counter service. It's really not all that much more special than a handful of other resort counter services, but there is something about it that just evokes good feelings for me. It's not just an emotional thing though; the food is quite good too.

For a table service, I'd say my choice would be Paradiso 37, which we like a lot, but hasn't seem to have caught on yet with a lot of Disney fans.

All the ones I have been to are well known. Sad

Sorry I can't add to this conversation.

Imagineer, what dishes to you recommend at Paradiso 37? I don't think we've been back to WDW since it opened, so we might like to do it next time.

Last time we went, we actually ordered a few appetizers, shared them and made a meal out of it. We really liked the Chorizo and Beef Skewers, Crazy Corn and Mexican Dipping Trio. There are still a lot of menu choices that we want to try.

They also make this boast that they serve their beer colder than anywhere else in Central FL. Of course I had to try it, for research sake. wink While I can definitley vouch for the fact that it was cold, I don't know that I'd have been able to discern that it was much colder than a beer you'd get anywhere else.

The location is great too. It's right on Pleasure Island, by the dock that serves SSR and OKW. Last time we were there we sat outside and had a great view of Characters in Flight as we ate.

I hear the key lime pie there is great. Have you tried it? Also congrats on your sneaky-close trip. I didn't even notice!

Thanks Brad. Yes, it's kind of an "under the radar" trip. It's a quick one and it was planned pretty last minute, but still, now that it's a couple days away, the excitement level is starting to crest. mickey

Imagineer, I'm jealous of your short trip!

Brad..I've had the Key Lime Pie there are it is very good..and I am NOT a Key Lime Pie kind of girl..it's very creamy and not so tart that it smacks you in the face like most Key Lime Pies.

I would like to put in a vote for the Turf Club Bar & Grill at my DVC home resort, SSR, we have been there many times with never a bad experience and even without ADR's we have never had more than a 15 minute wait. And if the wait is longer you could always jump on the pool table in the combo waiting room and lounge. awesome It's the only place in WDW that I know of with a pool table.

We will have to give the Turf Club Bar and Grill a try the next time we stay there. We keep saying we would to try it but so far all we have done is had a drink there.

No, I'm at home in Buffalo, NY right now (which feels so hot and humid today that it's as if I were in central FL).

But, my flight leaves for WDW tomorrow morning at 730AM! mickey
