Your Most Disappointing Missed Attraction Due to Refurb?

Refurbs - I love 'em when they are done, and I hate 'em when they happen while I'm there! laugh

When we go in April/May this year, both BTMRR and Test Track are scheduled to be closed for refurbs. I think this is the first time we've had 2 of our favorites under refurb while we are there.

While a little disappointing, there's still PLENTY to do and keep us busy....and we have another reason to go back!

What's been your biggest disappointment as far as an attraction being under refurbishment during your visit? And did you know about it ahead of time or were you surprised when you got there?

My other big disappointment was in 2009, when Ghirardelli in DTD was closed for refurb. I found out about it right before we went. I called every day while we were there, and would be told "We think tomorrow" and it never opened back up until a few days after we left. eek

I haven't ever been disappointed because of a refurb. We are going in May and I just recently told my husband and kids about test track and BTMRR. But we are all in agreement that there is plenty to ride and we have two more reasons to return in 2013. As if we need more reasons, but that's another story. This time we get to see the Tiki Room at MK because it was closed when we were there in May and see any part of Fantasyland that is available. So we have plenty to look forward to seeing.

I was on my college program there Jan-Aug 2009 and the very first week I was there, my friend took me to MK(for my first time ever!) and I rode Space Mountain. after that it was closed for refurbs until I left. I was so upset because I loved it!

Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse.

It was closed in May of the 20th anniversary year, and I was heartbroken (and eight years old. . .hence the melodrama).
I finally got to go on it for the first time in 2008 and boy was I glad!!

Disney also decided to renovated it when I went in September 2011 for their 40th anniversary. . . I'm seeing a pattern here. . .
Fortunately, I'll be able to go on it again for my 2012 trip, and am looking forward to it!

@Jessi5989: I ran into that refurb too! I was so excited to go in 2010 when it opened again and then I never managed to make it on the ride Sad maybe this trip. I hope the refurbs are great.

We're bummed that "Big Thunder Mountain Railroad" will be closed when we go in May. That is one of our "Must Do" rides. We LOVE it!!!

Quite a few years ago we stayed at All Star Music. I requested a room close to a pool as Jan was handicaped and needed to use the pool for therapy. They were very nice by giving us a room right by the piano pool. The pool was closed for refurb.

I've never been bummed about a refurb that has been happening while we were there. The biggest disappointment for me this year was seeing all the new construction going on in Fantasy land but none of it being ready to ride when we were there in November

We are bummed as well about big thunder moutain. It is also a must do for us BUT there are so many other things we can do that it really shouldn't be that bad of a thing. I can always go on space mountain twice.

It is scheduled to be closed until 27 May 2012, for what they say will be an "extensive renovation"

I wonder if they will ever put seatbelts on it? I know that when I ride with my best friend (or anyone substantially larger than me) the lapbar seems to be about 6 inches from me so I spend the whole ride flying up and down and sliding side to side. I don't mind it at all, I think it makes the ride more fun! but I could definitely see how it would be dangerous to small kids riding with adults. maybe that's what they are doing for the refurb? I can't really think of anything else on it that would need to be fixed...

When we went one time Pirates of the Caribbean was closed for that big refurb they did when they added Johnny. It was opening about two weeks after we went. I kept hoping for a soft open or something but we missed it. That was back when we went 2 or 3 times a year so we weren't too upset. I haven't checked the refurb list for when we go this year..hopefully we won't miss anything major!

Does anybody know where to find the refurb list for 2012? I used to be able to find it on the WDW home page, but for some reason, I can't locate it now.

Not sure if there is another list somewhere. This link has the refurbishments listed with each park.

I think I would just sit down and give up at that point. For me, no trip is completed without space mountain.

Test Track will be closed while we're there in October and I'm pretty sad about that. And while not really a refurb, I am sad I will never get to ride Snow White one last time sad

'09 when Space Mountain was down. My daughter has never gotten to ride it since the 1st time she was too small then '09 so this is on the "do list" this year...at least twice.

Agree with Allie about Snow White but my most missed has to be....20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Last time I was at Disney (2008 I believe) Mt.Everest at Animal Kingdom was closed. That was the single worst day I have ever spent at a Disney park. My family did not like it either. We basically agreed to never go back. We're going to MK twice this time with Epcot and MGM once instead of AK.

Pretty sure that Space Mountain was closed when I went once too. I think it might have been 2008. My mom's favorite ride. It was unfortunate. In EMHs I rode this ride over and over again once.

We were on our honeymoon in 2009 and so missed space mountain, wasnt the end of the world for hubby as he had never been on it, but i really missed it as i love coasters that dont go upside-down. This year it will be Test Track and I am DEVISTATED! We're staying onsite for the first time ever and one of the reasons we picked Beach club is for its proximity to EPCOT and our fav ride - Test Track! I know I know, its making it better and we'll be going back next year yadda yadda..... but its not the same.......................................!

same here! The thing is, next time I come, it will be way better. I don't remember much about Snow White in Disney World except for that it's write by that sword that kids try to pull out of the stone and they sometimes make a show out of. However, the last time I went to Disneyland (I was 4) I remember getting stuck on Snow White. I'll remember that forever. We were just about to go down a little hill, and the car just stops. It was the perfect ride to get stuck on. Good scenery around it from what I remember, and we weren't like crammed into the car, so it wasn't all that bad. Anyways, a little Disney Memory you made me remember. Thanks Alliie Smile

Test Track was closed this time when we went to Epcot and we were bummed. You don't realize how much you need that one in the future section until it is not available. Without that line we had a lot of extra time.

When I went in May of 2009, Hall of Presidents was closed for the addition of President Obama. I think I was the only person at WDW disappointed by that, but it is one of my favorite things at Magic Kingdom.

Not being able to go on Spaceship Earth would really bum me out.

We've never had a chance to ride Test Track. It was closed in the spring, but when we got the chance to go again in October, I thought, great, we can ride it then. Nope - still going to be closed. yuck
