News Tidbits: Christmas Party Sells Out & Valet Parking Price Increases

Here are a couple of news tidbits from around Walt Disney World.

First up, those of you who want to take in the first day of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party on November 9 but don't have a ticket yet are out of luck. Yes, the November 9 opening date of this year's after-hours holiday bash at the Magic Kingdom is now sold out. Good news: there are still tickets to be had for future dates of the party. Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is set to run November 9, 12, 15, 16, 25, 27, 29, and 30; it will also run December 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20 and 21.

'Magic Band' on the Horizon for Disney Tickets?

Could an electronic wristband that would replace paper tickets at Disney parks be in the works? Possibly, according to a Disney filing with the Federal Communications Commission.

The report, filed by Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts, is for a "radio-frequency wrist band." The name given to the device on the cover letter sent to the FCC by Disney is "Magic Band."

Disney World Discounts for U.S. Military

Disney has some nice discounts coming up for those who serve in this country's military for both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Those in the military (including both active and retired members of the U.S. Coast Guard, National Guard and Reservists) and their families can benefit from discounts on resort stays and park tickets with purchase dates from August 17 of this year through September 25, 2013 and travel beginning October 1, 2012.

Walt Disney World Raises Ticket Prices

Visiting the happiest place on earth just got a bit pricier. At the end of last week, Disney raised ticket prices to its Walt Disney World parks.

Both single and multi-day passes were hit by the latest increase. A single day ticket to one of the Walt Disney World parks now stands at $89, a 4.7 percent increase from the previous price. Mutli-day tickets were also subject to the rise in prices and jumped up anywhere from five to sevent percent. Adding the "Park Hopper" option to the multi-day tickets rose by $2 and now stands at $57.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party Dates Announced

It's never too early to start thinking about Christmas, especially if going to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is on your to do list. Disney recently announced the dates for this year's holiday extravaganza and made tickets available for purchase by phone.

The dates for 2012's Christmas Party are:

  • November 9, 12, 15, 16, 25, 27, 29, 30
  • December 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21

As mentioned above, you can purchase your tickets over the phone for any of the above dates. Base prices (without tax factored in) are as follows:

Mickey's Halloween Party Dates Announced

It may seem strange to think about Halloween now during spring, but the folks at Disney are definitely looking ahead. Recently, they announced the dates and prices for 2012's Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. In case you want to make plans to attend this year's event, here are all the not-so-gory details.

Dates for the event are as follows:
September 11, 14, 18, 21, 25, 28 & 30
October 4, 5, 8, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, 25, 26, 28, 30 and 31
November 2

Braves To Conduct Spring Training At WDW

Though we're not done with 2011 yet, the Atlanta Braves are looking forward to 2012 and spring training. This year, they'll make the trek to Florida to hold their spring training at the EPSN Wide World of Sports Complex located on the Walt Disney World Resort.

Look for the Braves to play eighteen games at Disney, including a matchup with current World Series champs, the St. Louis Cardinals. Other teams the Braves will face in WDW are the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.

Tickets are set to go on sale January 7, 2012 at Ticketmaster locations and through the complex's box office.

Night of Joy Artist Lineup Released

Night of Joy, a two-night Christian concert offering in the Magic Kingdom, is coming up in a few short weeks, and now Disney has released the schedule of who will be playing on September 9 and 10.

$1 Million in Fradulent Disney Tickets Confiscated

Discount park tickets are a big business around Orlando, and one is often left wondering how legit some of those tickets are. We now know that at least some of those tickets are fradulent, thanks to a recent sting conducted along U.S. Highway 192 in Kissimmee, Florida.

Some 3,617 tickets for Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World were confiscated during the sting. The estimated cost? Over $1 million.
