Just wanted to say that on the Camilla issue, tecnically she will become Queen if and when Charles becomes King. As overs have illuded to there was some very strong feelings over here regarding Diana and the Monarchy and it was decided that it would be better if Camilla would not be Queen so she has agreed to use the title "Princess Consort" in the style of Prince Albert, but she will still realistically be Queen its just they wont officially call her that. Its to do with gauging how the public feel at the time and not actually upsetting them. She has also agreed to take the title Dutchess of Cornwall for now although again she is actually the Princess of Wales its just the Diana thing would make this awkward for her so she doesn't choose to use it.

Anyway just wanted to add my 2 cents in. Hope no one minds as this is my first post.

Oh and apart from 1 family who I know that are going to a Street Party for the Royal Wedding there isn't much going on around me here. Weird really as we live about 5 minutes from Cardiff (Capital of Wales) but never mind. At least we get a day off and looking at the weather it is going to be glorious!

Thanks caitiesus! We are very proud of Dr Who and of course Torchwood! Can't wait for the new Dr Who series to start on Saturday. Lots of episodes are filmed around us and we've seen some of the stars too which is cool! One sceen in Torchwood was shot in my street!

I've been going back and forth about whether or not I wanted to watch this wedding. I've now decided to take a peek at it. I'm not into modern day royals. It's just not my thing, but being that I have a minor obsession with the British royal timeline I say what the heck.

I've also been wondering why is it that Americans are so fascinated with with the British monarchy. I mean I must include myself because I love world history and that's where my mini obsession comes from. Anyone have any answers?

That is so cool! I need to watch Torchwood still...LOVE John Barrowman to pieces! I am not a huge fan of Matt Smith compared to Eccleson and Tennant and am really not a fan of the current companion, but I am still excited about it coming back.

If I had to guess, I would say because our country (and please, I don't mean to open a can of worms or offend in anyway) basically came out of England, and beyond our break from Great Britain and a bit of trouble at the beginning, they have been our staunchest allies throughout our history. I think sometimes that we Americans see Britain as sort of our friendly foil - proper where we're relaxed, upholding tradition when we kind of stand tradition on its head. (I realize there are lots of contradictions to this. I'm speaking generally.) I'd say that, bottom line, we appreciate the pageantry and much longer history - even though we're proud of our democratic republic, our being cheeky upstarts, and our "new world ways." Make sense?

And in the interest of full disclosure, I plead guilty to being a complete Anglophile. I have always loved British history, literature, and I've spent more time than I probably should learning about the British Monarchy.

As for the Royal's fascination I think its the not having it aspect too! I personally get the same kick out of watching American politics and trying to understand all the goings on as its just so different to what we have. The Monarchy over here is so every day we just all don't seem to care that much but to you guys its something completely different and unknown in some ways and I think this is what makes American's love them so much! Honestly we'd be happy to swap countries lol!

I read that 80% of Britons didn't care at all. I felt like 75% of American were SUPER EXCITED and the other 25% were complaining that there was too much coverage. I will say I felt like the coverage was a bit over the top, but I don't really mind.

Omgosh, the wedding was so gorgeous!! But, dang it... there was the most ugliest hats in the world I have ever seen... ESP Victoria Beckham's hat and Princess Beatrice's hat!!! UGH.

Welcome Gismo!! Thanks for your thoughts! Seriously, great first post!

I loooooooved it! I thought it was well worth getting up early to watch. I had the live stream on in my classroom once my kids got there (during the carriage ride) and they were just in awe of how formal it was.

For me, it was seeing kind of a modern day fairytale..which is something I've never witnessed before. No one in America could get married and have that much tradition and celebration. Not even if President Obama's daughters suddenly aged and got married suddenly..it just wouldn't be that big a deal.

And the hats! Oh the hats!

Hello there Bella. As far as I know, Queen Elizabeth's husband is not titled as King because Elizabeth is the monarch, having inherited the throne from her father. Philip is not. A man who marries a queen regnant, a woman who reigns in her own right, does not become a king. -- not even a "king consort".
