I just found this site tonight (its wonderful) and hoped I could add something. My wife and I have done MNSSCHP twice once in 09 and the first night this year and have done costumes both times. In 09 as 1920 adventurers and this year as cavemen.

You will definitely not be a "creepy grown-up" a lot of grown-ups come in costume, its part of the fun I wouldn't go without one. My only advice is to consider the weather. We have tried to ensure our costumes were never to hot and we were able to get on and off the rides easily in them.

Also Nancy D mentioned the Hitchhiking Ghost costumes....This year we saw a family dressed as the paintings from the stretching room in the Haunted Mansion best costumes of the night.

We went as Mickey and Minnie, as it wasn't too hot and was really simple. I got lots of compliments on my Minnie dress! I'll be uploading the photographs when I get to that stage of our trip report, but I'd recommend something simple and comfortable for the party. Smile

Robyn - your dress is very similar to mine. I think mine is a bit shorter and straighter - I bought a short petticoat to go under it. You two look awesome!

We should have some pics up after our trip.

Nice outfits.

Awww.....so so cute!

Allie we are going as Dorothy and the Scarecrow (I know, not Disney but my all time favorite movie!)

We are making our own costumes (we both sew), well mine is done, and hubby is about 1/2 way done with his, and let me tell you...it's all about the shoes! Ha ha...I had so much fun making the shoes. No way I was wearing heals so I had to get creative.

Here's the pics of my dress and shoes and I have a basket with Toto, blue bobby socks and made ribbons out of the same gingham to tie in my hair.

Thank you. I found the pattern for the original Dorothy dress but I did add a underskirt with the white lace at the bottom as the gingham was rather see thru!

Yes, great job VelcroPooh with the costumes, especially the shoes! Did you glue fabric to them?

VelcroPooh

No, I found these holographic red sequins, pre strung on thread, online for really cheap I just glued them in strips and then cut a piece of felt for the bows, glued sequins and a jewel on. You can see from this pic, not in the sun more of how they are sequins.

I do have a question. We are going to the MNSSHP on Sunday, but Thursday we will be there for the actual Halloween day. Do you know if they do anything at the resorts or anywhere Halloween night?

We are there the same time as you and haven't found any other Halloween events for that night. We've heard the kingdom is very busy that night so the other parks might be slower. We are thinking about watching the hallow wishes show from the beach at the poly so we can combine them with the water parade.

Last year most of the resorts had trick or treating set up and the poolside activities had Halloween themed games. I think they also show a Halloween movie as well. You should have a guide at the resort when you check in or info should come out the day before Halloween.

We've been to MNSSCHP 4 times. Although we don't do the whole dress up thing, we do wear Halloween T-shirts and stuff, either from Disney or the super market that starts with a 'W'. We always go trick or treating, my brother LOVES American candy, so he loves it when I bring it back for him.

People go to a lot of effort in their costumes, it's really great to see them all, couples, friends and families. The best we've seen we're two couples dressed up as the hitch hiking ghosts, very very cool.

I can't wait for this year, debating what to be considering Cruella or bride of Frankenstein & him as Frankenstein or the haunted mansion ballroom dancers
. I can't do pink & fluffy as doesn't feel like it's halloween then!! Last year we where undead / zombie prom king & queen. It helped desiguise my injuries from an accident I'd had - ie the black eyes & cuts were real.

ok so when is it too early to start dressing up for the MNSSHP? there are events on September 9th and 12th while we are going to be there and i would love to dress up but i have to be able to convince my husband that's it's not too early for Halloween.

It's never too early for Halloween (in my opinion). If they're having an event, consider it a green light to dress up. wink

I went last year on Sep 29 and I dressed up then. You don't have to wait until Halloween to dress up. Since they have trick or treating each night of MNSSHP you definitely have a reason to dress.
