Now if they would ban parents putting kids on their shoulders, we'd all be able to see the parade. clapping

Another article...

Of course, it's not the stick itself to blame, but the idiot at the end of the stick. I'm really glad they are getting rid of the damned things.

Exactly! Plus flash use on dark rides. That drives me crazy.

Does anyone know if this includes tripods and monopods? I actually bought a monopod to record the EPCOT fireworks, but never bothered to bring it in. Others have already done a better job recording it and throwing it up on YouTube.

Well, I checked Disney's website regarding their stance on monopods and tripods. On the list of prohibited items, it read "Tripod stands or monopod stands that cannot fit inside a standard backpack"

when I see a flash on a dark ride I want to kill mad It's rude beyond belief.

Tripod and monopod guys typically get to a parade or fireworks an hour in advance and try to find a spot where no one will bother them and their very expensive camera gear.

Tokyo Disney does not allow tripods. I guess because of the crowds and the Japanese are mad photgraphers. There would be more tripods than people. laugh

I also resent folks who open up their phones to text, etc during dark shows. The light hurts my eyes and takes away from the experience. Sad

I agree with THIS^^^^100%! During the live shows I find it especially irritating, rude and distracting. We ask people constantly to please turn down the brightness or stop using their phones because it hurts my eyes and gives me an instant headache. Not to mention how inconsiderate it is to everyone around them.

So glad to see the back of selfie-sticks in the parks, now maybe people will actually enjoy their trips and be in the moment to experience the magic live rather than spamming their Instagram feed with moments they don't even remember because they were too busy picking a filter!

Here is what my friend said about selfie sticks:
1. Anything that can be extended and is handheld is banned.
2. Anything classified as a monopod or tripod is allowed however it must be small enough to fit inside a bag, no giant professional grade tripods are allowed.
3. The gopros are still allowed however must either be attached directly to the body with no extension or on the small hand holder.

Upon arrival guests have 3 options, they can check the device with the guest relations at security and retrieve it on their way out, they can return to their car or hotel and leave it there, or dispose of it.

If found within a park at a ride entrance they must relinquish the device to the greeter, in order to ride, who in turn will hand it off to a coordinator who will meet the guest at the exit and escort the guest to a regional guest relations cast member.

My friend is an attractions host at Magic Kingdom.

I have a question I need a little help with please. I have been looking at GoPro cameras. The only attachment I would be interested in is the Boxer Extreme Handgrip

http://www.target.com/p/bower-xtreme-action-series-handgrip-for-gopro-pink-xas-hgp/-/A-17265432#prodSlot=medium_1_41&term=gopro

or the Grenade

http://www.target.com/p/gopole-grenade-compact-hand-grip-for-gopro-hero-cameras-black-blue-8116121/-/A-15706026#prodSlot=medium_1_20&term=gopro

Neither of these "expand" but would they be considered a "selfie stick". I've seen lots of "GoPro pics/videos from the parks and just wondering what other people use or if you have seen anyone with them.

Thanks!

I think those are fine as they don't expand into a stick as you said. Those are basically just camera grips and somewhere to place your hand.

That's what I was hoping! I looked at a couple while in Target this morning, I hope Best Buy has them out with the camera's. I want to hold it and look at it... I can't just look at the packaged GoPro.... I gotta get a feel for it before I buy.

Everyone is killing the selfie stick fun. I swore I would never have one, then dad gave me one and I love it LOL I guess Selfie Sticks are only meant to be enjoyed in the privacy of your own homes! laugh

Typically, as with a lot of things, people will push the boundary of what's acceptable usage of these things. Obviously, the less aware you are of your surroundings the more likely you are to bump into someone or hit someone with it. It's the same with people thinking they were safe to use on rides. The parks don't want you extending a camera beyond a certain area as it will impact on the magic of illusion and also be unsafe.

I hate that people are becoming increasingly more absorbed in the tech they carry than what's going on around them, especially when they cross roads or are in pedestrian busy areas. The number of times that I've seen people shocked and scared silly when they've walked straight out in front of a car/bus/truck/cycle/insert your own vehicle is horrendous.

Selfie sticks are good in some situations, just not every situation - I hate them as much as I appreciate what they can help you do, but there needs to be common sense in the use of them otherwise they'll end up being barred in all the places where we could use them. I guess this is a softening of my original stance on them - still don't have one and not sure I'll intentionally buy one, but might invest in a go-pro at some point and they need to be used on an extension of some doing...

We were at Universal & IOA a few days ago and there were still lots of selfie sticks being used all around the parks. However, UNI is very strict now if anyone brings a selfie stick on a ride they make the person give it up or get off the ride.

We saw one of these confiscated at AK this morning so you may want to rethink this JMed.
