Disney's Animal Kingdom - the largest animal theme park in the world - opened to the public on Earth Day, April 22, 1998. This year marks the park's 15th anniversary and there's a "wild" celebration planned.
The anniversary celebration begins with a special opening ceremony on April 22nd, 2013 at the Tree of Life where guests will be greeted by Josh D'Armo, the Vice President of Disney's Animal Kingdom, Dr. Jackie Ogden, Vice President of Animals, Science and Endowment, and Joe Rhode, Senior Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering Creative. This event starts at 8:40 a.m., so plan to be at the park early that morning. You don't want to miss this!
Throughout the day special Earth Day "Party for the Planet" activities are planned. These events will focus on animals and nature, and are scheduled from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
As you walk through Africa and Discovery Island be sure to watch for artists and vendors who will be selling their featured works. There will also be special commemorative park merchandise available for purchase (in limited quantities). And of course, no anniversary party would be complete without special food and beverage items.
To keep up with all the events for the Animal Kingdom's 15th anniversary, be sure to use the hashtag #DAK15 on Twitter. And we'll keep you updated as more details are announced.
