This year's Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party kicks off September 2 at the Magic Kingdom and so it seems like a good time to review the updated costume policy at the Walt Disney World Resort.
In December 2015 Disney updated its costume policy for guests over the age of 14, essentially prohibiting them from wearing costumes. That rule has been modified since then, and while restrictions are still in place they are less strict than the original ban.
All costumes must be "family-friendly" and cannot be obstructive, offensive, objectionable, or violent. No costumes may contain weapons that resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.
For guests 13 and younger: costumes and some masks may be worn as long as the mask doesn't cover the entire face and the eyes are visible.
For guests 14 and older there are more rules including: layered costumes or props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged; costumes may not reach or drag on the ground (no full-length princess dresses or robes); and capes are permitted if they don't go past the waist.
Also for guests ages 14 and older, permitted accessories include: transparent wigs, plastic light sabers, toy swords, and tutus. No masks of any kind are permitted for older guests.
Now you know what kind of costume you can or can't wear to this year's Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! Light sabers, yes; full-length Jedi robes, no.
Are you making plans to attend the party this year? What is your costume? Let us know in the comments.

It's good that they didn't ban costumes all together, it's one of the best parts of the party.
