Disney’s Animal Kingdom Transforming into a Nighttime Destination

This month is a big month for Disney's Animal Kingdom! The new Rivers of Light nighttime show is set to debut, turning this once daytime-only destination into an exciting park to visit after dark! Read on to find out more about changes coming to the park.

Starting April 22, guests will be able to take a nighttime safari tour on Kilimanjaro Safaris. During the nighttime tour guests will get to see the nocturnal habits of the savanna's residents. The savanna will feature "strategically placed lighting" that will evoke the setting sun and rising moon. And the ride vehicles will be equipped with side-sweeping lights so guests can see the animals after dark.

The much-anticipated Rivers of Light nighttime show is set to debut on Earth Day, April 22. The show will feature glowing lanterns, floating lotus flowers, animal spirits, and more. Also on Earth Day the park's Tree of Life will come alive after dark as the animal spirits carved in the tree's trunk will seem to come to life.

A new dance party, the Discovery Island Carnivale, is also coming to the Animal Kingdom on April 22. This party will happen each evening to end the day and begin the evening fun. The dance party will feature the Viva Gaia Street Band.

After dark, guests can take part in the Harambe Wildlife Parti in the Harambe Village area of the park. This nighttime event is a street festival featuring the goodwill shaman Muziki, the Karibu Sisters, the Harambe Soccer Meerkats, and the Harambe Village Acrobats.

If you are making plans to visit Disney's Animal Kingdom on April 22 or after, you might notice that as of today (April 1) the park hours are still listed as 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. These hours seem a bit odd considering all of these new events are supposed to take place after dark. While we don't have any insider information about the park hours, we would expect that any day now Disney will update their website and add the actual park hours.

Which nighttime event are you most excited about at Disney's Animal Kingdom? Let us know in the comments.
