Back in 2010, Disney World became a part of Clean the World, a central Florida organization which collects, sanitizes and repackages unused, discarded hotel soaps and shampoos before distributing them to poverty-stricken nations across the globe.
In the two years since, some 53 tons (or 565,509 bars) of soap have been collected by Disney resorts. In addition, Disney has collected over 33 tons of shampoo, conditioner and lotion for distribution.
The cleanliness items have been distrubted locally in homeless and domestic abuse shelters in the Orlando area as well as worldwide.
In addition to helping the world's poor with hygiene, Clean the World also has helped reduce waste; Disney's contributions of products to the organization has helped keep some 87 tons of hotel waste from landfills.

I always love hearing the fun ways that DIsney gives back to the community and world!

I loved reading this story because I visit WDW often and always ask for extra toiletries and when I return I bring them to the local food pantry which gets distributed to the locals needs and some even get sent out in care packages to our service personnel. Mickey can put a smile an anyone's face regardless of your situation.

What a great idea, CJ. I usually don't use the toiletries. I bring my own. I'll have to remember this when I'm there in November.
