Disney VoluntEARS Make "Little Mermaid" Friends for CANstruction Competition

The fourth annual Orange County CANstruction contest was held recently with Disney represented by its VoluntEARS.

For the competition, the VoluntEARS constructed Sebastian and Flounder from "The Little Mermaid" completely out of canned goods and non-perishable food items. Around 4,200 pounds of canned items like black beans and corn plus juice pouches were used to create the structure.

CANstruction, a charity that focuses on ending hunger worldwide, holds similar competitions all across the nation. After structures are completed, the goods used to comprise the creative edible art are then donated to local charities.

For the Orange County CANstruction competition, the Orange County Food Bank received almost 70,000 pounds of food used by the fourteen participating teams. This year's competition was held in conjunction with the Festival of Children.

That's awesome. What a fun way to volunteer.

It does look fun, JoAnn! I thought it was a very creative way to donate some goods, too!

I want to know how long it takes them to put that design together? Do you think they use some sort of engineering program to design it?
