Sitting high on top the Contemporary Resort's Bay Lake Tower lies one of the most exclusive lounges in all of Walt Disney World, the Top of the World. This posh bar with its relaxed mid-century modern interior is home to one of my favorite desserts, the seven layer cake for two.
The cake has layers upon layers of moist chocolate and yellow cake separated with a layer of light creamy chocolate mousse, and covered with a decadently rich chocolate ganache frosting. This oversized piece of luxury is served sitting on a generous drizzle of salted caramel sauce. It's the perfect late night snack to accompany your night cap while you kick back and watch Wishes from a birds eye vantage point.
The menu at Top of the World has been through a few changes since the lounge opened in 2009. It's most recent incarnation has settled in on 5 savory appetizers, 2 kids choices, and 2 desserts - the second of which is a vanilla creme brule. Without a doubt though, for me this cake is reason enough to make a trip to the Top.
Originally access to Top of the World was restricted to Disney Vacation Club Members staying at Bay Lake Tower on points. However through 2013 access to the lounge has been opened up to all Disney Vacation Club Members and their guests with only a couple of black out dates. The Lounge is available on a first come first serve basis, and space is limited. Check in at the reception desk on the ground floor with your DVC member card or room key identifying you as a DVC guest, if there's room available, you can take the express elevator straight up to the top. Don't forget to try the cake!
Thanks so much to our friends over at DisneyContemporary.com, a Disney's Contemporary Resort tribute page for use of their cake image. Have you enjoyed this delicious bite to eat at the Top of the World? What's your favorite piece of Disney cake? Leave a comment and let us know!

Thanks for sharing this. I'm a DVC member going to WDW in September. I didn't know ANY member could go to the lounge this year. I've already changed my itinerary to include viewing Wishes from the Top of the World!
