Zachary Levi Launches Indiegogo Campaign For Nerd HQ

Earlier this week, actor Zachary Levi launched a 46-day crowd-funding campaign called "I Want My Nerd HQ." With a $1 million target goal, the fund will go to help to finance the popular fan event Nerd HQ in San Diego, California.

Levi is known by Disney fans everywhere as the voice of the debonair thief Flynn Rider from Disney's animated sensation 'Tangled,' and more recently as the swashbuckling Fandral in 'Thor: The Dark World.'

Outside the realms of the mouse, Levi is known as the nerd cult hero 'Chuck' from the TV series of the same name, and as the creator of The Nerd Machine. This star of stage, screen and television, is a kid at heart and a big nerd. In fact, he's a self proclaimed Disney Nerd as well! The Nerd Machine is the company that for the past several years has put on the fantastic Nerd HQ, running concurrently and right across the street from the legendary San Diego Comic Con.

Check out this video of 2013 Nerd HQ Highlights below - you are sure to recognize quite a few grown-up Disney stars that took part in the festivities.

Nerd HQ offers alternative panel programming that is all about the fans. Levi has created a fun and relaxed daytime atmosphere, which gives way to some truly exceptional evening parties. Fans don't even have to attend the event live to participate, because it's all streamed over the internet and for free.

However it's not all fun and games at the Nerd HQ because they are really getting down to some serious business. Nerd HQ Benefits a charitable cause called Operation Smile. "Operation Smile is an international children's medical charity that heals children's smiles, forever changing their lives" by offering free surgeries to fix cleft lips, palates and facial deformities. Last year the 2013 event raised a record breaking $215,000 for Operation Smile through celebrity panel series "Conversations for a Cause" and the "Smiles for s Smile" Photo booth. That was enough cash to provide 895 life-changing operations.

Levi is now calling upon his Nerd Army to help make Nerd HQ to help him make the 2014 Nerd HQ the best event yet. With the event's past financial structure failing as it grew larger he decided to reach out for a little help from people who care. He believes that the Nerd HQ events are about bringing celebrities together with fans to express an appreciation for what they do - what the fans do that is. This is a man who seems to understand where his bread is buttered, and in the most gracious and charming manner wants to give back. And still, while creating this more intimate experience for the fans, he's found a way for everyone to work together for the greater cause of improving the lives of children around the globe.
