AVATAR coming to AK!

It's official! Disney has announced a partnership with James Cameron's company, they're going to work together to bring an AVATAR- themed attraction to AK! What do y'all think - cool, huh??

There are apparently going to be 2 more sequels, so there will be no shortage of excitement to build on. From that perspective, it's ahead of the HP hoopla at Universal, since all of the HP books/films are (reportedly) out.

I haven't seen the film, but we own it, so I guess I'll watch it now Smile

Excited or not so much?

This sounds AWESOME! I cannot wait to hear more.

There's another article over in The Orlando Sentinel as well with just a little more info.

I'm probably one of the few people in the world who hasn't seen the movie. I can't imagine what type of attraction they would make. I guess I need to watch it.

Avatar is an richly developed fantasy environment, you could see a 3-D soarin, coaster certainly, I'm intrigued at what they could come up with just using the scenery and theming. An incredible playground or sensory experience.

The 3-D version of the movie was really immersive, I can see why it appealed to Disney.

There's a huge amount of possibilities that they can do here beyond just a virtual reality ride. Wouldn't it be fun if guests in an attraction are themselves given their own "Avatar" to explore a world?

I definitely can't wait to see what the Imagineers come up with for this one.

I'm not all that excited, but then, I haven't seen the movie.

I can't wait to see what they come up with for this. The film was amazing, I doubt anyone but Disney would be able to do it justice.

I'm a little disappointed. I know Disney can look down the road and see what happens when you are able to take advantage of a monster franchise. I don't know that Avatar has that kind of staying power. It's not Star Wars, it seems risky to not wait and see how the sequel does. I know it was the highest grossing movie of all time, but that is not a guarantee people are still going to care by the time it's all done.

Im curious to see what they do. I would had preferred this at HS... but AK has A LOT MORE ROOM to build. I thought the movie was decent though. I wasn't one of those who thought it was the greatest movie ever though... but I'm curious to see what they will do.

I understand how Avatar fits into the theme of conservation at Animal Kingdom, but I just don't know. I'm going to wait to pass judgement on this one. I've seen the movie, and it didn't really impress me. Hopefully Disney will help bring the magic to life.

I'm with you on I think that it belongs in HS more than AK.

I think that if they approach Avatar as a land, as it's been announced, it fits in AK very nicely. Creating a space with attractions and show and more dining options. I'm hoping they create a hard transition so that when you enter it's like you've left the AK behind. I think thats something Disney does very well.

Hoping for one major attraction, a 3-D show, or even better a virtual reality experience.

I love the AK and I can't wait to see it enhanced!

I really dont have any opinion on this. I'll wait and see what its like when it's done. Although it does feel kind of weird because avatar doesn't say Disney to me

I'm not too sure about this either. I would love to see Pandora brought to life, and I doubt anybody could do it as well as Disney, but it just doesn't seem like something that belongs at Disney World to me.

I'll just have to wait and see I guess.

I agree with Freya. I never would associate AVATAR with Disney but I'm sure they will make it amazing.

It shocked me when I heard about this. I didn't ever expect the Disney company to persue this. I've seen the movie and wasn't all that blown away by the story. The visuals however were amazing and I think that's what drew Disney in. I sure hope whatever they do with this project can get me excited about Avatar because just the movie alone, doesn't.

Thinking about it... This smells SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Fishy. Since when does Disney release plans for a new land, with tons of info about what they are going to do? And, the second movie isn't even out yet... I believe lots of the 1st movie's attention and ratings were caused be hype. Who knows what the next ratings are going to be?
