Budget stretching?

Every once in a while, even when we have money budgeted to stay at a nicer place, I sometimes suggest we should go with a value resort. This may sound crazy, but to some degree I think I enjoy the trip more when I feel like we've been a little more frugal. At the same time, usually once I'm there I kind of forget about cost. Does frugality fly out the window when you get on property?

Yes..but often times the window should be locked..and then nailed shut..perhaps painted over.

I always budget really well for a Disney trip..and I've never come home and found out I've spent my life savings or anything..but occasionally I can get a little "Key to the World' happy..and just swipe away. $18 for a water/fan/mister..no problem! $75 dollars for a coke..why not?!?

I love the KTTW but it is rather dangerous. It's a magic card that gives you whatever you want in Disney World!

I actually kind of like the KTTW because it captures most of my expenses for that trip and puts them all in one place. Add in airfare and I get a rough idea of what I spent on my whole vacation.

We don't use credit cards anymore. We use a debit bank card for everything. I start off with my bank balance on a piece of note paper and with my cell phone calculator I deduct each receipt at least every night in the room. When we get home I know weather we can pay any bills or not.

If you can still pay bills does that mean you didn't spend enough in WDW? silly

Never thought about it like that Brad. Worth giving some thought.

OMG yes. I'm very frugal in my trip planning ahead of time, but once I'm there, I spend what I want to spend. I'm also very frugal in my everyday life, and I am that way so that I can enjoy myself on vacation. That's what I'm saving my money for!

I really don't know what I'd do with any extra income if not for vacations. I'm not into cars or collections or anything like that. I don't really like fancy stuff either. We pretty much blow all our "discretionary income" on vacations.

Way to be guys. My philosophy, in a nutshell, is to be frugal every day at home so I don't have to be while on vacation.

I told myself a long time ago that I would spend money on travel and education, so that's what I've always saved up for. Now where does a house and kids fit in there? Remains to be seen! laugh

That was smart! I have a house and a kid..and a loan for my masters and I haven't been on vacation in two years...I wish I could just figure out how to have all four..
