OK...so with all of the glowing recommendations I decided to book a reservation at California Grill. Unfortunately the only time they had available was at 9:25.
P and I do not mind eating late, but I have heard that California Grill is THE place to watch the MK fireworks.
Do you think that if we were to show up early they would at least let us on the observation deck to watch the show at 9:00 and eat afterwards...or would it be wasting our time?

I would think so but I do not know for sure. I do know that if you eat earlier in the day your receipt will get you back in to view the fireworks if you want to.

I've never been to CA Grill so others might be better with this answer..but I would assume that if you check in early it shouldn't be a problem.

99% sure you can ask to just go up and sit in the lounge to see the fireworks.

I'll echo what others say - I think so, but I'm not sure. Maybe call WDW Info and ask? It's something you should be able to find out ahead of time.
Cali Grill is, hands down, one of my absolute favorite restaurants! I think you'll be pleased, and seeing the fireworks from there really is something special. Good luck!
