Disney Vacation vs. Other Vacation

Always, always contemplating this. I'm a big traveler--HUGE. I love to travel, and any opportunity to jump on a plane to somewhere ELSE, I'll take it.

Before discovering Disney World, I took vacations (albeit budget ones) all over the world. Now I tend to prefer Disney World over other exotic destinations.

I hate to admit it, but I might just be lazy! I know Disney World so well that learning other destinations seems exhausting (even destinations in the USA!)! As travel writer Paul Theroux said, "Travel is glamorous only in retrospect."

Anyone hitting the same kind of "vacation road block?" Or does anyone do a year at Disney and then several years in other places?

Going to WDW for the 50th time is SO much more relaxing than trying to figure out a new place.

In my life I have spent too many vacations in disappointing locations, staying in sub par accommodations. With Disney I know I'm getting Quality in Service, location, and destination. There are too few years in one's lifetime to waist.

I go to Disney parks, I Take Disney Cruses and I am now looking into some travel by Disney Destinations. I consider it a seal of quality, and to be honest I don't see why I would ever need to vacation any other way.

You get what you pay for.

I'll agree that it's a bit stressful to go to a new city/country and have to wander around with a map and a guidebook all the time. And if you're somewhere foreign, you have to figure out money, food, language, which hotels are decent, which areas of the city/country are safe and close to the things you want to see...

That said, no place can become familiar to you unless you go there for the first time! Smile World Showcase is of particular concern to me, because I always feel that people think they have a good understanding of each country once they've been there--and so it would be superfluous to actually GO to the country itself! A disney-fied Japan is NOT Japan. Wink

I think everyone agrees that one of the prime reasons we like to go to WDW is that we're confident we're going to have a good time, which cannot be said of most places. I think it's important to try new places as well, but it would be crushing to spend a week somewhere and not have a good time. Also with the stress of "figuring things out" you oftentimes come back and feel like you need a vacation from all the stress of your vacation.

If I only get 2 weeks off per year, I really want them to be relaxing. The idea of wasting one is terrifying. I always have a good time in Florida!
