New Epcot Pavilion - What would you choose?

So we've discussed what new DVC we'd like to see, what new moderate resort we would visit, what we'd change if we were in charge of WDW....my question is: If Epcot were to add a new country to the World Showcase, what would it be?? I was thinking Thailand or India would be good additions. Europe is pretty much covered, but very few people will every actually visit either one of those two countries and the food is delish!! What do you think?

As a follow up question, to our friends who live outside the US, do you think Epcot has done justice to your country when you arrive at the pavilion or do you think it's mostly "stereotype", for lack of a better word??

I am so with you re India. The uk pavilion is very much a stereotype but there are parts of the uk that look like it, I guess stereotypes wouldn't exist if there wasnt some truth in them Wink the France pavilion is very much like Paris but without all the graffiti lol

What's really cool is that in the capital of Australia, Canberra, all the Embassies there are built to look like something that represents that country. So the Chinese Embassy is made of pagodas, the American Embassy looks like Colonial Williamsburg, etc. The entire time we were driving around I kept exclaiming that I felt like I was in Epcot!! laugh

The Canadian pavilion is also very stereotypical, right down to the Martin Short movie, but it's still fun to see.

I think a Greece one would be great - loved it at the F&W last year.

South America is sadly missing. With Brazil being a major market that might be worth looking into. We have not had any new permeant countries since the late 80's which is one reason we are so excited about the food and wine festival. Adding a great article about the world showcase.

I think a South American country would be great. I heard that Israel was supposed to be in the world showcase when they started building, but it never panned out. I don't know if it is true or not!

South America/ Central America makes sense. Greece would be nice and offers many opportunities for great theming. And I love Greek food. Spain. Russia. Eastern Europe. Australia. Winterfell.

I think I read that there is room for 5 more pavilions.

That is correct! There is enough room to build 5 more pavilions. I believe the country would have to sponsor it's own pavilion as well. I think I would want India or another non-typical Asian/European country.

I'd vote for India too. The Indian people are AWESOME! The food is also great. I love it. Unfortunately, when I visited India for work a few years ago, we had to be really careful of what we ate due to the water cleanliness. I was very bummed out. Having India at Epcot would mean I could indulge to my belly's content!

I really don't think we need Ireland, the uk pavilion touches on it.
I don't think we need Thailand either Shock with Japan and china.

I like Jamaica though, and Australia, Russia, brazil, and Greece!

1. India-- I have never been and that would be cool to get to sample some food.
2. Greece- Always wanted to go and LOVE Greek food.
3. Australia- this could be so fun.
4. Russia- because...why not?
5. Peru (this could be really cool because of the Andes)/Brazil/Argentina/Chile-- basically, something South American, considering a gazillion tour groups from the area flock to Disney during the summer.

LOLOL

I want Switzerland just so they can put a Matterhorn there.

But Brazil would be awesome, or Argentina! I don't really want any more Asian countries just because I don't care for Asian food so I wouldn't be able to eat there and if I can't eat, what's the point? I'd LOVE to see a Greece pavilion. Australia or New Zealand would be cool to see as well!

I'm shocked they haven't added anything in so long.

I like the India idea. It's the second most populous country in the world, has awesome food and could inspire a WS Taj Mahal (although I've thought about this before and am afraid it would be a disappointment because it would have to be shrunk down so much). The downside is that there is already a strong Asian presence in the Showcase.

I love the Greece idea. Again, the food is awesome and, as others have said, theming could be fantastic. Also like others have said, though, the European influence is also super strong in WS.

Russia seems like it would be fantastic. Now that we're well past the Cold War, it could be a big winner. Still, I'm doubtful Disney would ever go there.

I think that means it should probably be a South American country or Australia. Brazil is the obvious choice due to its size. I admit I don't know much about Brazil; my guess is the majority of North Americans don't either. The only super famous Brazilian landmark I know of is Christ the Redeemer, and something tells me that is not going to be transplated to Epcot. Still, I bet the cuisine and culture could be presented in a fascinating and fun (can you say Carnaval?) way. The other huge plus going for Brazil? They're hosting the Olympics in 2016, so the entire world will see and learn a lot about Brazil over the next several years. That should pique the interest of many and could be a good lead-in to the newest country in WS.

We have had several discussions on this topic before, and in one of them, I've made my suggestion known.

Heck, the U.S. pavilion is mostly stereotype.

I'm embarrassed to report I have not actually visited the US Pavilion. Shame on me!

I wonder if Disney would shy away from Brazil because the movie, "Rio", was produced by 20th Century Fox, or would that matter?

I'm not sure about that. I think Disney's concerns would be more political. Probably why there is no Russia pavilion, since Epcot was conceived and built during some of the highest tensions with Russia.

I would love to see Australia, Greece, and a south American countiry. I would never step into a Russian pavilion until they change their anti GLTB laws.

The only issue I have with Australia is that last year at the Food & Wine Festival, every time we walked by the Australia kiosk, all I could smell was Alpo. Well, ok, it was either the Caribbean, Argentina or Australia kiosk, but it was REALLY strong near Australia.

Australia sounds like a great addition, but I can't get over that smell. yuck

Russia could be beautiful. The vodka could certainly help some upset parents.

Brazil Carnival all day every day!

India could be pretty slick too.

I would like to see an Ireland or Brazil pavilion. However more than any pavilion I would LOVE to see a decent restaurant in the America pavilion.
