You Rule WDW!

Two recent articles from the home page inspired this thought and post...

If you were Tom Staggs, Ruler of WDW, what current attraction would you update and how? And for all you cheaters out there (you know who you are wink ), you may not resurrect a favorite from the past. It has to be something that is in operation right now. What facelift would you bring to The World?

As I mentioned in the Carousel of Progress article, I would change the last scene from the present to something like the early 80s. The time warp from the 1940s to now is simply too great. Besides, showing us what life is like now isn't exactly fun or enlightening. The 80s scene could spin off the current one by showing the child and grandma battling in an Atari video game or something that looks like it, mom or sister using a gigantic home movie cameras to film the get-together, vcrs, whatever improvement happened with kitchen appliances and maybe something about computers. It seems like there's already some mention about computers, though, in Spaceship Earth, so maybe not.

I would HAVE to put my attention into Hollywood Studios - mostly likely the Backlot Tour. Though I'm not sure how I would change it since the facilities are no longer there to do what it was originally meant to do. I might change it by closing it and building out Pixar Place over the top of it. Too extreme?

Then I would turn my attention to Imagination and revamp the entire pavilion by moving back towards it's original incarnations. I would get rid of the whole lab feeling and return more to realms of fantasy and the fantastical. It's supposed to be about Imagination - get science and the senses out of there. I would add more color to everything lots and lots more color. I would go back to interactive elements focused on creativity and innovation upstairs making it a place to spend some time again. I would get rid of Captain Eo and add a brand new 3D movie, something that tied in the ride and the creativity stations. Ooooo!! Maybe there could be some sort of crowd sourcing to the movie... almost a chose your own adventure type of thing that would change based on what each audience wanted. I would probably try and get Apple to sponsor.

That's a good idea, Kristen. I like it.

I'd probably change Animal Kingdom. Oh, wait.. too big? Let's see here... Here's a few:

- Change the Honey I shrunk the Kids playground to a playground of any other Disney animated movie. Literally, any of them.

- I would add a FastPass to Astro Orbiter.

- Although I have never rode Tomorrowland Speedway, I would make it so it's actually enjoyable, not on rails and not moving 5 mph. Then I'd add another track nearby for little ones. However, I know they have to keep the guests safe, and with the capacity of people going through every day I understand why they wouldn't change it.

- I would get rid of Stitch's Great Escape and add a Wreck It Ralph attraction that features video games and saving Venellope.

I have a lot of ideas..but these are what first popped to mind.

I would love to see the final Carousel of Progress scene go back to the original 1960s scene. Then it would be almost exactly what we saw back at the 1964/65 New York World's Fair. Either that, or update the whole thing to spread the scenes out over the years - say, first scene 1900 as it is now, then skip the 1920s and have the second scene be the 1940s, then a new 1980s third scene, then a new near-future final scene.

Pirates of the Caribbean. I'd change it back to something similar to what the DL one was back when it was campy & sort of cartoonish. I really enjoy the movies but the ride has me bored & wishing it was over in under five minutes. The only thing the DW version has going for it is that it's a bit shorter than the DL version. However, the only time I go on either one is if I'm touring with someone who wants to go on it.

I also agree. That was going to be an entirely different topic thread, but since you mentioned it, I have to agree with every ounce of my being. It is horrible. Alien Encounter was horrible. I don't think anything could be done to make this attraction work. As you said, it simply has to be demolished. It is the only attraction in any of the parks we refuse to do under any circumstance.

If I had to change it without destroying it, I would make it kid-centric. Instead of attempting to scare and creep everyone out (which it doesn't), how about a little lightheartedness? Teleport fun mistakes. Maybe at one small juncture it could even act like things are going to be bad and then drop coconuts and pineapples from the ceiling. Or Elvis. I don't know. Make it silly. Make it cute. Make it anything other than what it is.

first i would do something with wonders of life probably revive body wars but make it more high tech and less blurry then add a dark ride showing what the organs of the body do. i would go over to Hollywood studios and tear down the restaurant next to the HiStK movie set adventure and turn the area into a roller coaster in witch you shrink down to the size of an ant and get set loose in a back yard . i would also demolish indianna jones stunt show and turn it into a ride like at disney land but based more on the movies. and change some of the movies in the great movie ride . over at animal kingdom i would make a rainforest tour based on south america. i have many other ideas but those are just the ones that i think are crucial

i also have an idea on how to get more people in animal kingdom . take out Chester and Hesters Dino Rama and dinosaur and all of the Dino stuff. move nemo to the seas then make a new indoors roller coaster where nemo was. make it based off of lilo and stitch. it would be kind of like revenge of the mummy but a little wilder and more theme into it . then in the Dino land USA area make an area for reptiles and other aquatic animals . you could even have a princess and the frog ride that is similar to pirates of the carribean i know its not that detailed but this is just a rough thought

make it a video game challenge were you challenge other players in the room and make it so you can vote for the video game you will play

What's with all the hat hate??

I'd update the Great Movie Ride to take you through all of the more recent Disney movies. Take you through Africa and Pride Rock, then down to New Orleans, then the French Countryside, etc etc etc.

And I'd build a new resort all decked out in purple and gold - Hail to JMU!! Smile Just kidding, but I would do a new colonial America moderate resort!

I think the Soarin' video really needs to be changed. We are in Florida. I don't want to be flying over California Stare

I have an attachment to the NORWAY pavilion.

I would expand the Maelsrom to double it's size.
AND reverse the theatre so the screen is on the back wall and you can walk thru w/o interrupting anyone sitting.

OF COURSE, the movie must be UPDATED!!

SAY IT ISN'T SO!
We love Stitch. I guess we love the character too much. Maybe not the ride, but I am too loyal to Stitch to want his ride gone.

dont you mess with stitch thats the first ride we hit everytime. Now if you want to redo it and make it something better with stitch in it I would be ok with it. I already think they dont have enough stitch in the parks as it is.

Great idea about the movie, both updating it and reversing the entrance to the back of the theater. We've seen it so many times but I still like it. The fashion models are way out of style (although high waisted jeans are back in again) and we always joke that the old couple walking the dog have been dead for a long time now - they were pretty old in the movie. Plus the old lady walking on the cobblestone hill, I'm sure she's gone too. And the kids in the parade and on the field trip are all grown up now, wonder if they know they're in a movie at Disney!

It was built in honor of some kind of anniversary and was never meant to be permanent from my understanding. Either the Earful Tower or Chinese theater would be the park icon.

Something needs to be done with Inovations. I've said it before, but the whole thing just looks like something that is incomplete, and Disney is trying to find a way to finish it. When it first opened, it was kind of cool with new ideas, virtual reality, video games, and more. But it is just out of touch now. It would be the perfect place to do something with Marvel, but as liong as Universal holds tight to their rights, I know it can't happen. I can't blame them for doing so, but I don't like it.
