‘Ohana Best Friends Character Breakfast at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

On our most recent Disney World vacation we decided to book a fun character breakfast for our first full day in the parks. Since we made this decision on our drive to Florida, two days before our first park day, I was pleasantly surprised when the 'Ohana Best Friends Character Breakfast popped up in My Disney Experience!

Knowing how much my teen LOVES all things Stitch and knowing that Stich is one of the stars of this meal, we immediately booked breakfast!

We arrived at 'Ohana about 30 minutes prior to our Advance Dining Reservation time and, as is usually the case at 'Ohana, there was a line at the check-in kiosk. After checking in we were given a pager and told we could stand in line to meet Stitch and have photos taken and then wait for the pager to buzz.

I love character meals where you can have a photo taken with one of the star characters before your meal, that way you're guaranteed a good photo! At the Best Friends Breakfast you have a chance to meet Stitch and get pictures taken!

Once the pager buzzes a "cousin" takes you to your table and explains what is on the menu. Breakfast at 'Ohana includes Huka pua (scrambled eggs), Uala Kahiki (fried potatoes), Pua'a (pork breakfast sausage and ham), Mickey waffles, Stitch waffles, Pineapple Coconut Bread, Fresh Fruit, POG juice (papaya, orange and guava juice), and coffee. The food is served family style and you can ask for refills of anything or everything!

A quick note about dining out with food allergies: While Disney does a great job when it comes to guests with food allergies, my biggest complaint is that they won't serve your table anything until the chef comes out. Not even drinks. I had to basically beg our "cousin" to bring us juice and coffee and we had to ask several times for the chef before he appeared. He was also delayed coming to other allergy tables that morning.

Once the chef did appear he noted the girls' allergies, asked them what they wanted on the platters, and when I mentioned that my oldest could eat her weight in bacon he said that bacon was no longer part of the breakfast platter but he would get some from the Kona Cafe. He also made sure to include gluten-free Mickey Waffles on one platter, and later in the meal he brought out gluten-free Stitch Waffles so my daughter could enjoy both.

Our regular platter was allergy-safe for our other daughter who isn't allergic to gluten and the chef also made sure to pile it high with even more bacon. We also had Stitch Waffles AND Mickey Waffles. The fresh fruit and the Pineapple Coconut Bread was also part of the meal (the kids had to avoid the bread, but they didn't seem to mind).

During the meal Mickey Mouse and Lilo lead a parade of kids through the restaurant which adds an element of fun to the meal!

And, since it is a character meal, you'll also be visited by Pluto, Mickey Mouse, and Lilo. We made sure to stick around for all the characters (which also meant we were able to enjoy more Stitch Waffles AND avoid the rainy day for a bit longer).

As a whole the 'Ohana Best Friends Breakfast was a hit with all of us. It was SO much better than our last dinner experience (when I had basically sworn off eating at 'Ohana again). Our "cousin" was attentive and the chef checked on the girls several times throughout the meal, which is always appreciated. We never felt rushed even when meeting the characters. And the food was delicious. Everything on the platter was hot and fresh and the refills came quickly - even when we requested more gluten-free waffles.

So. Much. Food.So. Much. Food.

definitely redeemed itself with this character breakfast and we'll be adding the Best Friends Breakfast to our must-dine-here list on future visits.

We absolutely love O'hana for every meal! One of our favorite places! They're very good to people with Celiacs disease!
