In the context of popular Japanese culture "kawaii" represents all things cute. A multitude of adorable characters have become a true phenomenon in the modern era and can even be said to have taken over the more staided and refined national identity. The current art exhibit in the Bijutsu-kan Gallery at Epcot's Japan Pavilion showcases this movement, and you can read about it in our previous article Kawaii: The Culture of Cute. Today we're checking out artist Donna Yan, who has taken two of our very favorite things, Disney and Food, and brought them together in a kawaii style that will have chibi lovers squeal with delight.
Since it is cocktail Friday, why not kick it off a print of sunny, funny tropical cocktails from the secret drink menu at the Disneyland Hotel's Cove Bar. Donna's prints can be ordered in a variety of sizes from 4"x4"all the way up to 10"x10", making them versatile enough to go in just about any space. You can also order her work to come matted and framed for your home or office in one of four classic colors.
Donna's art was inspired by her love of the food at Disneyland, and while there are some differences in coast to coast tastes, we think that the true Disney classics know no boundaries. Don't you know someone who would love to hang a Dole Whip print in the kitchen? I know I do! Be sure to share these fun kawaii prints with everyone you know!
Thanks to our friends over the Disney Food Blog for a heads up on this true collection of cute. Donna's website has a great collection showcasing all of my Disney food favorites. The holidays are coming, and Donna even has a special Holiday collection up on her website too.
Yup - I did indeed just remind you that it's time to get shopping for the holidays. I'm making my Christmas List now - go check them out!
