Afternoon Respite at Animal Kingdom's Dawa Bar

Where can you find a great place in Disney's Animal Kingdom to kick back and relax with a drink? Why not try the perennial fan favorite, the Dawa Bar. "Dawa" means "medicine" in Swahili and the mystical concoctions that are mixed up here could surely cure the stress of a crowded Theme Park. The Dawa Bar first-rate bartenders and staff help to make this a genuine little oasis in the middle of madness.

Located in the middle of Harambe Village, the Dawa Bar is tucked between the river and Tusker House Restaurant. Even with it's rough open air (but covered) safari bar theme, Dawa Bar manages to feel like your favorite pub around the corner. There is an eclectic selection of bar stools in all different shapes and sizes, and ample outdoor tables for seating.

Offering a full service bar year round, this watering hole respite also serves some unique and hard to find African Beers and Wine. Brews include the hard to find "Tusker Lager" from Kenya with it's light, crisp, clean flavor; and Windhoek Lager from Namibia. South Africa is in the top ten list of wine producing nations and this bar features beautiful vintages of their wine and sangria. You can find Cape Indaba Shiraz, Goats do Roam Red, and Brampton Chardonnay; but if you're looking for Jam Jar, you'll have to make a stop at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

I mentioned the first rate bartenders right? With a full stock behind the bar, these mixologists can mix up the remedy to what ails you. Not just serving the Disney drink menu, Dawa Bar has some fantastic signature cocktails with names like the African Margarita and Harambe Cooler. These delicious cocktails feature ingredients straight from the African continent.

Not only has Dawa Bar appeared in the WDW For Grownups list of Top 5 Places to Relax With a Drink at Disney World, but it's been given high marks from the Disney Food Blog as well. We want to thank the DFB for giving us exclusive permission to use their images. If you time your visit to the Dawa Bar right and catch a table outside, you may even get to watch the parade go by!

I know that the next time I head to Disney Animal Kingdom, this will be where you'll find me at the Dawa Bar escaping the afternoon sun with a fabulous cocktail. Have you stopped in at this great Bar? Leave a comment and let me know what your favorite drink is!

I'm sure the Dawa Bar is great. Unfortunately, during my trip last week, the line was so long that I didn't want to kill 30 minutes or more waiting for a delicious beverage! They need to work on the service...and understanding drinks take time, maybe they just need another bartender!

We were at Animal Kingdom in August, and it was a horrible rainy day. Due to lightning nearly all the attractions were closed. I was at my wits end with an impatient 4 year old. Once the rain cleared my nerves were still shot. Then, I passed the Dawa Bar. Since the park had nearly cleared out during the rain, there wasn't a soul in sight. I ordered an African Margarita and it was delicious and worth every penny. It was just what I needed at that moment, I will be back the next time I need an adult beverage!

I love this bar. My husband and I honeymooned at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and loved it so much we always go back. It is a great way to relax on a hot Florida afternoon. The bartenders are great and will gladly give suggestions. I have never seen it busy but could understand how that would lead to a bad experience. Based on my experience I would defiantly recommend.
