Finding a great place for breakfast is never hard for me at Walt Disney World, and one of my favorite spots to start the day is the Whispering Canyon Cafe at Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Villas. This western themed restaurant is tucked over to the side of the magnificent Wilderness Lodge lobby, and while it's easy to miss if you're not staying there, I think it's a stop everyone should give a try at least once.
The open space of the Whispering Canyon offers a casual rustic decor. Rough-hewn logs not only make up the posts and beams here, but cover the ceiling, and support the charming tee-pee lighting. On one side of the restaurant floor to ceiling windows look out onto beautifully landscaped greenery, on the other, Guests are treated to an open overlook into the lobby. The center of the room is filled with brightly painted wooden tables and chairs decorated with Cowboys and Indians.
Whispering Canyon is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with great menus that serve up western comfort foods all day long. My favorite meal of the day here though has got to be breakfast - and perhaps that's because it's so easy to grab a table for a large group at this restaurant. The cafe is a fantastic place to meet friends and family for a hearty meal before hitting the Parks. It also has a reputation for being a great place to head after finishing a runDisney event, and when your reservation is after 9:30am the breakfast crowds inside are minimal.
Once your party is seated your server will toss a card on your table and explain to you that you can choose your level of interactive fun. If you just want to eat and get out of there, leave the red side up stating that you'll watch from the fence. However - if you leave the green side up, it cues your server to include you in some rip roaring good times. Cast Members here have a reputation for sassing customers in the most unique manner, and there's enough friendly shenanigans to go around. As many a Disney fan will tell you though, be careful what you ask for, especially if it's ketchup.
You can tell by the picture below that my family goes all in for the shenanigans. My kids (yep - the "grown-up" ones) have even been known to throw in with the smalls for a hobby horse race around the dinning room or build a masterpiece at the Lincoln Log table.
Though Whispering Canyon Cafe offers a full A la carte menu (check it out over on the Disney Food Blog) my family always goes for the all-you-care-to-eat breakfast platter. At $16.49* per adult, it's one of the better values on property for families that are big eaters.
The breakfast platter includes scrambled eggs, western home fries, bacon, sausage, Mickey waffles, buttermilk biscuits, and sausage gravy. As long as you've got more room in your stomach the waiters will bring you refills of whatever you would like and the chef will prepare your platter to order. If you like your eggs a little drier, no problem, need to cheese to top that with, or want the bacon crisper - just ask. My family likes to make sure we have a few extra Mickey Waffles left over, those always end up in a box for later.
In addition to the bountiful food and cheerfully sassy service, I've been known to enjoy a cocktail with breakfast, the mimosas here are ample, and the Bloody Marys popular. However it's the bottomless "Sheriff's Shakes" in chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry that turns breakfast into an ice cream lovers dream.

This is one of my family's favorite places for breakfast. So much fun and great food! I asked for a refill once and they brought me a gallon mason jar filled with iced tea. My daughter asked for a little more OJ and they brought her an ounce sized mason jar with OJ in it. Fun place!

Mmm, I've never tried breakfast here, but now I think I'll have to make space for it at some point. Looks delicious!

Always a fun spot - especially if you are a big and rowdy party to start with.

So glad they've returned to the real skillet! The last 2 times we were there they were using those awful generic white platters instead. Very disappointing.
