Nestled amongst the dignified buildings and tasteful greenery of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa guests will find the relaxed retreat of the Courtyard Bar. Situated beside the Courtyard Pool, this hideaway sits beneath a pretty lattice roof with turned white pillars and dainty gingerbread details. A ping-pong table and 2 TVs provide added entertainment for guests not looking for a swim.
Seating is comfortable and ample around the courtyard pool. Bubbling fountains make ripples in the blue water, and lush greenery helps to make the whole area feel just a bit secluded from the bustling resort walkways around it. The dazzling white buildings of the Grand Floridian seethe Victorian charm and elegance from every corner, and the tables beneath the lattice overhang offered dappled shade.
The Courtyard Bar is fairly typical in that it's all about keeping thirsty guests hydrated and happy with a beer or cocktail while poolside. Most of the patrons are stopping by because they are swimming or lounging in the Florida sun and Courtyard Bar is their closest option. On the other hand, I found this spot to be an especially charming and (relatively) quiet spot to sit back and relax while escaping the outside world.
Like many of Disney's pool bars the Courtyard Bar is full service and presents the standard Disney Pool Bar Menu along with a few specialty cocktails unique to the location. The selection of drinks available is broad enough to please both adults, and their kids, looking for something fun to sip on vacation.
Since I hit the Courtyard Bar early in the day, I opted for a mocktail, which the bar menu offered several varieties of. The Lava Smoothie is a virgin version of the fan favorite Pina CoLava, with a combination of frozen Raspberry Puree and Pina Colada mix. Whether you order up this drink full strength, or go for the non-alcoholic form like I did, the result is quite tasty.
The bar has a small food menu of what I call picnic fare. There are a couple of sandwiches, salads, chips, and fruit. It's easy food that the bar tenders can serve up in a hurry and without much effort. I was impressed with the Turkey Sandwich. The ciabatta it was on was fresh and soft, with turkey breast carved from the bone, citrus mayonnaise and pickled onions added a nice pop of flavor. A nice surprise for something so grab and go.
However, if it's something more substantial you seek, Private Dining can be ordered from the bar by using the guest phone. Simply let them know you would like your meal delivered poolside, and a sharply dressed server will convey your meal promptly.
Before stopping by on my last trip I had never realized what a great space the Courtyard Pool is. Everyone wants to go to the feature pool with the rock slide and the beach view, but the chairs around the Courtyard Pool are well padded, there is ample shade, and plenty of tables near the bar. We really liked it here and wished we had time to take a dip.
