The word "Kigurumi" actually comes from a combination of two Japanese words: kiru ("to wear") and nuigurumi ("stuffed toy"). Originally the word applied to performers acting out animal roles in the theater and even at Theme Parks (like Tokyo Disneyland). However by combining the animal inspirations with a comfy pair of pajamas the Japanese Pop culture has embraced this trend.
