It just goes to prove that everything old becomes new again. Disney Skyliner is opening to all September 29th at the Walt Disney World Resort, giving guests a new perspective in transportation. This brand-new aerial gondola system glides above the treetops connecting four resorts directly to Disney Parks in a fun and free way to travel.
While operating, the system will be continually in motion allowing gondolas to come in and leave the station without delay. Think of the continuous loading on rides such as the Haunted Mansion or People Mover. Gondola cabs will move through the station for loading and unloading at approximately 1mph, and reach a cruising speed of 11mph once they leave on route.
Inside the 300 Disney Skyliner Gondolas guests will find two wooden bench-style seats that fit up to 10 people. There is no standing allowed onboard the gondolas. The cabs offer guests a bird's eye view and feature onboard audio information systems.
The Skyliner Gondolas are not air conditioned, however Disney assures us that the use of reflective panels and cross-ventilation windows will keep guests comfortable during their ride.
Dedicated queues exist for guests with mobility issues and those in wheelchairs that need extra time boarding or disembarking the gondola. Disney has said that it will be no problem for ECV's to fit inside the gondolas. However, strollers and mobility aids must fit within a 30'' x 48'' area to board the Disney Skyliner.
Guests will be delighted by the assortment of colorful gondolas decorated with Disney friends from fan favorite rides and movies. I'm sure families will making a guessing games of "which gondola will we get" while standing in line.
Just a few of the familiar faces you might see flying by include characters from:
Disney Skyliner connects Disney's Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four resort hotels that previously only had a direct Park connection via car or bus. The time needed to ride to and from your destination should only take between 5 and 15 minutes, depending on how far you plan to travel.
Gondola Stations will be located in the following places:
The Disney Skyliner opens to all on September 29th, 2019.
I'll be honest, as someone who has a sizable fear of heights I'm a bit skeptical about Disney Skyliner. Just thinking about traveling at heights of up to 60ft above the ground puts me on edge. None the less - I'll be giving this new transportation system a try in November so that I can better share my thoughts on this new transportation system with you.
Thanks so much to our friends over at the Disney Food Blog for sharing their Skyliner images. You can read more about the Disney Skyliner at their article Disney World Skyliner Gondola PRO TIPS: Here's What You Need To Know Before You FLY!
