Another fabulous stop along the monorail route brings is a taste of winter in the South Pacific. Disney's Polynesian Village Resort isn't the place that most people turn to for holiday decor, but if you're heart logs for someplace warm you'll find netfuls of tropical delights.
To me, this is one of the most fun of the seasonal stops because you can truly appreciate the creativity that goes into creating seasonal swag inspired by the tropics. Exotic flowers take their place along side carved woven and carved trinkets that bring island culture together with Christmas.
Maui greets guests to the resort as always, but the orchids and bromeliads that grace his fountain now have colorful poinsettia joining them.
As the song says, here we promise Christmas will be green and bright... a large Christmas Tree near Boutiki provides a holiday background for family photos. The tree is decorated with sea life carved from wood, stars woven from sea grass, pineapples, and bright pink plumeria.
In modern Polynesian culture, the plumeria can be worn by women to indicate their relationship status - over the right ear if seeking a relationship, and over the left if taken. In Hindu culture the flower means loyalty. Plumeria is also associated with love in feng shui.
A Walt Disney World vacation is a great way to celebrate the holidays, and Mele kalikimaka is the island way to say Merry Christmas to you.
Don't forget to stop by Disney's Polynesian Village Resort if you are Walt Disney World over the holidays, I guarantee the seasonal setting is light and breezy.
