Epcot Future World Reimagined For Tomorrow

Chairman of Disney Parks and Resort Bob Chapek, and with Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald shared a vision with fans this weekend at the D23 Expo. That vision is a rejuvenated Epcot Theme Park staying true to its original mission, with new additions coming to both Future World and World Showcase in preparation for Epcot's 35th Anniversary, as well as the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World.

Fitzgerald, who worked on the original designs for Epcot, will be leading the project to ensure that the spirit of the Park remains intact. Epcot will continue to evolve, as the Imagineering team strives to "make it more timeless, more relevant, more family and more Disney."

An immediate focus in the Park will be creating a new space in the heart of Future World. While details weren't announced as to everything that entails, the concept art shown seems to have removed the Innovations buildings, and replaced them with green space, walkways, and a few yet to be named venues. Looking at the Future World waterways in the concept art image it also seems to me like there may possibly be fountains that will be installed for a nighttime show.

The first attraction to get a facelift is Mission: SPACE. Starting next month an updated Orange Mission will make the trip to Mars even more spectacular. But thrill seekers aren't alone in the fun, because a new Green Mission at Mission: SPACE will take guests on a stunning tour around the Earth.

To continue the adventure in space exploration, guests will be able to dine amongst the stars at a new location adjacent to Mission: Space. The restaurant will invite guests to travel high above the earth for a truly unforgettable dining experience. The space eatery will be operated by the Patina Restaurant Group, which operates several other restaurants at Walt Disney World including Tutto Italia and Via Napoli at Epcot and Morimoto Asia at Disney Springs.

Marvel fans can rejoice because the Guardians of the Galaxy are headed to Epcot with a brand new E ticket attraction. The details on this highly anticipated announcement were a bit on the elusive side, but fans were reassured that 1) it would be a rockin' and action-packed world of the Guardians, and 2) it will epitomize the goals of Epcot while giving fans the true sense of WOW they have come to expect from Disney. Some of the concept art shows Groot and Gamora out in front of the pavilion meeting people, so expect character experiences to likely be in the works as well.

Big things are coming, and this is just the start of a beautiful new space that focuses the spirit of this beloved Park. In the days, weeks, and months to come we're sure to get more details as plans coalesce, and projects go from the drawing board, to construction, to an exciting new environment for us all to enjoy.
