Disney's Hollywood Studios is currently undergoing a massive transformation across several areas of the Park. At 14-acres in size a new land focused o the Star Wars Universe will transport Guests to planet Batuu, for an adventure that is truly out of this world. So what's the skinny? Read on for everything we know so far about Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
It Opens Later This Year! Opening date for the Walt Disney World Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is August 29, 2019. This means that if you've got plans for a Disney trip during Christmas break next year you'll get in on all the action.
It's Set On The Planet Batuu. Guests visiting Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, will make a trip to the Black Spire Outpost on planet Batuu. This remote destination on the galaxy's edge is home to those galactic personalities that prefer to stay out of the mainstream. A thriving port, Black Spire Outpost is the last stop on the frontier for smugglers, rogues, and adventurers headed into uncharted space.
The residents of Batuu man Black Spire Outpost, and make it a thriving village on the galaxy's edge. Here you will find folks wearing rugged, military-inspired uniforms of the Resistance; pristine, polished First Order uniforms; and civilian attire that offers personal flare and detail.
You Can Fly The Millennium Falcon. Settle into the cockpit of none other than the Millennium Falcon, as you prepare to run a critical mission on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. The elaborate ride queue will take guests through Ohnaka Transport Solutions where critical cargo is stacked and ready. Watch and listen to the crew ready the 110-foot Millennium Falcon which will "will spool up its engines and vent thrust gases while docked at a spaceship maintenance bay."
Receive your mission in queue from state-of-the-art A100 Audio-Animatronic figure Hondo Ohnaka, before climbing on board the famous ship and taking a turn at hologram chess while waiting for your flight crew assignments. Six riders will create three rows: pilots in the front, gunners in the middle, and flight engineers in the last row. Perform with skill and you may earn extra galactic credits, while bringing the ship back banged up could put you on the list of a local bounty hunter.
Every outpost needs a Cantina. Oga's Cantina has a well-established reputation for exotic concoctions of all sorts! Adults and children of all ages will be able to imbibe in the libations on offer. In addition the music is fantastical with former StarSpeeder 3000 pilot turned DJ RX-24 spinning the tunes. Plus, you never know when a stormtrooper or a familiar face will show up. Remember that Bounty Hunter we mentioned? If you're on his list you may face a bit of a problem.
Quick Sips & Bites will also be found at Kat Saka's Kettle (Flavored Popcorn Stand), the Milk Stand (Blue AND Green Milk), and Ronto Roasters (Sandwich Shop). It sounds like Black Spire Outpost is ready to feed an army.
In addition to the Cantina, interplanetary travelers can get their rations at a few other places, including Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo. The atmosphere inside Docking Bay 7 will be fast-casual, with shuttle pods providing foods made from the finest ingredients across the galaxy! Guests may choose to dine indoors in the hangar bay or outside in a shaded courtyard.
Give the Ithorian Garden Loaf a try; a plant-based "meatloaf" that comes served with roasted vegetable mash, seasonal vegetables, and mushroom sauce. Another hearty option will be the Smoked Kaadu Ribs. These country sticky pork ribs come with a unique blueberry corn muffin and cabbage slaw. Battle In The Bay Of A Star Destroyer as you ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance This unique experience in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will be "built on a scale never done before," and the current rumors suggest that it may be a whopping 28 minutes long! Guests riding in trackless vehicles driven by droids will feel like they are inside a hangar bay of a Star Destroyer, caught in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance as they try to escape. Drawing from a wealth Star Wars movie history this may very well be one of Disney's most ambitious attractions yet.
Characters Abound From A Galaxy Far, Far Away. Guests will discover both new and familiar faces inside Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Don't be surprised to find BB-8, Chewbacca, members of the First Order and many more. You'll even note that Rex, the troublesome pilot from a previous version of Star Tours has found a new job as DJ at the cantina.
Of course there will be shopping! Galactic marketplaces are the perfect way to shop for souvenirs. In Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge you never know who you will encounter while browsing the exotic merchandise. No doubt the array of fun toys, prop replicas, and clothing will straight out of the Star Wars galaxy. Guests will be parted from their credits at a fine selection of mercantiles.
Batuu Will Have It's Own Unique Luxury Resort. In what may be Walt Disney World's most ambitious project ever, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will have a luxury hotel as part of the world, where registered guests can take part one-of-a-kind multi-day adventure experience. The resort will be located on the south side of Disney's Hollywood Studios, just east of World Drive. While we're not quite sure all that entails at this point, the concept art suggests a completely immerse world down to the last details, such as uniforms for guests and window views of space.
