Skip waiting in line to check-in at your Walt Disney World Resort hotel and head straight to your room! It's easy to do when you use the MyDisneyExperience app. Less time waiting in line at the hotel, means more fun for the whole family!
Simply use the app, or online portal, to check-in prior to your arrival at your Walt Disney World Resort hotel. It only takes a few minutes, and can be done at anytime within 60 days of your arrival date. During the online check-in process you'll be asked to input your credit card information, authorize charges, and submit an estimated arrival time at the hotel.
Once your hotel room is ready, Disney will send you a notification and you can head back to your room when it's convenient for you. If you don't know your room number, simply view the reservation within the app and tap "Show Room Number". Once you have arrived, use your MagicBand or the MyDisneyExperience app on your phone to unlock your door.
If we're being honest, I have resisted direct to room technology before now. I like the personal connection that I get when checking in at a front desk during. I worked in the hospitality industry for most of my life, and enjoy the whole hotel experience. However, on my most recent trip my daughter and I were spending each night in a different Walt Disney World Resort hotel. The thought of being able to skip the check in desk seemed like a way to make our split stay more convenient.
Direct to room had its ups and owns for us. On our first night we were familiar with the layout of the resort, and had a general idea of our room location. Direct to room went easily for us in that situation. That wasn't the case with the second or third night resorts. Not having detailed knowledge of the resorts layout, arriving late at night when we were exhausted, and not knowing details of the building caused us problems. This was especially true at Old Key West when at 11:00 PM we discovered there was no elevator in our building, our room was on the third floor, and I was in a scooter.
My daughter and I both agreed that direct to room is great if you already know where you are going, and can access your space without issue. It's not so great if you need help with your luggage, don't know the layout of the resort, or you need your room to meet specific needs. The jury is still out on if we will use the feature again.
