If you're traveling from Adventureland to Frontierland and you're feeling a bit hungry but you don't want to deal with crowds at Pecos Bill's Tall Tale Inn and Cafe, we suggest stopping by the Golden Oak Outpost. This quick serve kiosk is located across from Pecos Bill's and if you're lucky enough to find it open, you're sure to find something good to eat.
The Golden Oak Outpost isn't always open, but if there's a good crowd level it's a good bet that you'll find the window open and serving up hot food. What you won't find at the Outpost is a lot of seating but just mosey across to the patio at Pecos Bill's and snag a seat.
The menu at the Golden Oak Outpost used to be standard stuff like regular French fries, a fried chicken sandwich, and really good chicken nuggets. But in the past year or so the menu has gone through a makeover and now you'll find some rather interesting items.
The waffle fries at the Outpost get a lot of people talking and that's because they're delicious and rather unique. Currently there are three options for the waffle fries: BLT Waffle Frieswith bacon, lettuce, tomato, and ranch dressing; Brown Gravy and Cheese Waffle Fries topped with thick brown gravy and white cheddar cheese curds; and Barbecue Pork Waffle Fries.
Our current favorite is the Brown Gravy and Cheese Waffle fries because you can't go wrong when cheese curds are involved. But the other two choices are really satisfying too. They're also very filling so bring a friend and share some fancy waffle fries.
If you're looking for something with a little less gravy or bacon we suggest trying the Sweet Potato Nuggets. These replaced the Corn Nuggets on the menu, but if you're a fan of sweet potatoes and tater tots these might be perfect for you.
The Sweet Potato Nuggets are basically deep fried sweet potato tots dusted with powdered sugar, which gives them a perfectly sweet kick. Some folks say the flavor reminds them of funnel cake, and there's nothing wrong with that!
Other items on the menu include chicken breast nuggets served with waffle fries, a chocolate chip cookie for dessert (it should be noted that the sweet potato nuggets are listed as a dessert item), and assorted beverages including water and soft drinks.
The Golden Oak Outpost is one of our favorite spots to grab a quick bite during the day or evening at the Magic Kingdom. There's always something fun on the menu.
