The Walt Disney World Resort offers three different resort hotel categories to provide ample diversity in price, theme, and amenities and each category fulfills different needs for different guests. While our vacation dreams may lie somewhere on the deck of a Polynesian bungalow, the reality is that for many of us, our wallets lie at an All-Star Value Resort. Luckily for us, at Disney, the value accommodations are still first class, as I discovered when recently staying at Disney's All-Star Sports.
The rooms at All-Star Sports are small, but they are adequate for two unrelated people or for a family of four. The beds are doubles instead of the queen beds that you will find at the moderate resorts, but the savings in floor space is well worth the sacrifice in sleeping space. Each room does come equipped with a mini fridge, but there are no in-room microwaves or coffee pots. The End Zone food court is located in Stadium Hall and does have public use microwaves, so if you are trying to economize by bringing some of your own food, you do have access to a microwave. The bathrooms are small, but there is a separate sink to help a group of four to get ready in the morning.
All-Star Sports has two pools, the feature pool in the Surfing section and a quiet pool in the Baseball section. There are no waterslides or fancy fountains, but the area is quite large and can accommodate many guests comfortably. The End Zone Food Court in Stadium Hall is right next to the Surfboard Bay Pool. has options ranging from home-cooked favorites like meatloaf and potpie to made-to-order burgers and pizzas. There is a large assortment of grab-and-go items like fruit, yogurt, sandwiches, drinks, and desserts. The main building also has an amply stocked gift shop and an arcade.
The All-Star Resorts are often criticized for their size, but those who are accustomed to other Disney Resorts would be unlikely to complain. There are many rooms at the moderate resorts that have a longer walk to the main building than the most remote rooms at Disney's All-Star Sports. For a large group, it wouldn't even be necessary to book at the same All-Star Resort as you can access All-Star Music by crossing a parking lot.
While All-Star Sports isn't as flashy at the Grand Floridian and it lacks the location benefits of Beach Club, it is still a great place to stay if you want to be in the middle of the magic without damaging your Disney budget.

The Sports is also the first bus stop when Disney buses use one bus for three resorts which is a nightmare after a long day at the park. Though I haven't stayed at the sports in many many years, it is the easiest to get around. I stayed at the movies the two Octobers ago and have no problem with either three. I do encourage, if you can, spending a little more for a moderate resort- there is more to offer to counter the price.

I stayed there when I was four way back in 1997. From a four year old's point of view, it was pretty neat. I remember a cool basketball mural on the wall at the checkin desk and I really enjoyed the pool. I'm going back to Disney for the first time since that trip this winter and we are staying at All-Star Sports again. I'm so excited!
