In late 2016 Disney's Pop Century Resort began to refurbish its 1990's building rooms with a brand new design. Walt Disney World For Grown-ups reader Rebekah M. recently stayed in a newly refurbished room at Disney's Pop Century Resort and shared some of her thoughts with us on the new design.
Starting with a first glance into the room, the changes are noticeable. A subtle light gray on the walls and wood-like flooring has lead many guests to comment that the interior feels fairly sterile and lacks warmth. A combination art piece and light source over the bed brings a brightly colored touch of Mickey Mouse.
This is a room that is as much about getting the "mousekeepers" in and out quickly as it is guest comfort.
The queen size bed sits on an elevated platform. This space-saving move allows guests to slide their suitcases beneath the bed, and out of the way once they are unpacked. The bed is triple sheeted in white and piled with enough pillows for both of the beds.
When the cabinet is folded up the room has functional table space and seating area. This is a ingenuitive way to make one of the smallest rooms on property seem like it's just a touch bigger. For people who like to have that table space it's an important feature, as someone who frequently works while I'm in Disney having a workspace in a Value category room makes me more likely to book it.
In this configuration the Pop Century redesign is a decent value for 1 or 2 travelers that can share a bed.
The table has a secret though, with just a little tug you can pull it down to reveal a sturdy queen size murphy bed. It's a rather awesome use of space, and hiding inside is another pop of color in the hidden art work.
Once the murphy bed is down, floorspace in the room is considerably diminished with little room for more than one person to move about the main room at a time.
Tiny nightstands between the beds and walls offer limited surface space to store your bedside necessities, however easily accessible outlets not only have electrical plugs, but direct USB ports. In all the room offers a whopping 10 USB port outlets! You can charge the family electronics to your hearts content.
Over on the other side of the room from the beds, guests will find a chest of drawers, below a large flat screen TV. Three drawers allow for some extra clothing storage space, and the new spot to find the in-room safe. On the wall there are some cute little green knobs to hang your coats or keys.
My favorite spot in the new room happens to be the little beverage bar with a new glass doored mini-fridge (no more forgetting left-overs), a Cuisinart two cup coffee pot, and some extra shelving space for your ice bucket and groceries.
The bathroom and vanity area are completely new as well, with two closing doors! One sliding door closes off the shower and toilet area, but now the vanity area can be closed off with a sliding barn door as well. This offers a little more privacy and noise reduction if someone is getting ready while others continue to sleep.
The vanity area is designed for functionality all within arms reach, a small closet space, ironing board, and shelving are
The new shower space has sliding glass doors, duel shower heads, and the traditional H2O+ bath products.

Thanks for the views and information! Looks fabulous for someone who has been requesting King Bed rooms at Pop Century for those solo trips.
One question. Is the bed more comfortable that the old mattresses? Those were killer on my back.

Glad you enjoyed the pictures! I thought the bed was a tad on the firm side but not painfully so. More comfortable than the beds at Riverside last year, IMHO. Keep in mind, no back issues for either my husband or myself.
