Primo Piatto is the quick-service dining establishment at Disney's Riviera Resort. With a straightforward menu Primo Piatto offers guests a selection family-friendly meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A variety of European inspired sandwiches are offered for lunch and dinner, as well as flat breads and plant based options. I stopped in on my last Disney trip to check it out.
With health and safety precautions in place, Primo Piatto is currently working from the Mobile Ordering system in the MyDisneyExperience app and guests weren't allowed to enter the restaurant until their order was ready for pick-up. It wasn't what I expected when I headed to a quick-service for my first lunch at Disney since COVID-19 became a thing and it took a minute for me to wrap my head around the process. Once I got the hang of it though it was very easy.
Check out the Mobile Order How To over at the Disney Food Blog if you haven't used it before.
The atmosphere at Primo Piatto is very casual at lunch time with lots of light, widely spaces tables. Disney family photos from their European travels line the wall over the banquet and give a fun glimpse into the life of Uncle Walt. I arrived for lunch shortly after I arrived at Walt Disney World and it was dead quiet, with only two other families in the restaurant. It was a startling introduction to this Walt Disney World under the health and safety precautions from COVID-19.
However, when I stopped in the next night for dinner the atmosphere was more lively and active. While people were still socially distanced and most of the orders were being taken to go, it didn't have the dead feeling that I experienced during lunch service while most guests were at the Parks.
There is ample outdoor seating next to the Bocce Court, and table seating around both of the Riviera's pools as well.
Me? I grabbed my packaged bag and headed back up to my villa to eat.
All orders are packaged to go, placed in a bag, and sealed for take-away. The guest name and order ticket attached to the front of the bag to avoid confusion at pick-up.
I ordered the Croque Monsieur, which many people would just say is a fancy grilled cheese with ham. This though... this was a surprisingly special sandwich. The ham was so rich and flavorful, then balanced with Swiss cheese and a silky bechamel. Eating this was like someone took my inner 5 year old and taught her how to be a real Princess.
The Classic French Ham and Swiss is served with choice of side, of which I ordered the garden salad. It was a nice little salad of butter lettuce with some shredded carrot and tomato tossed in a light vinaigrette.
I was a little off put at first with the new quick-service dining experience, but the indulgent food at Primo Piatto took away every question of if I was enjoying this meal. Things are happening a little differently at Disney right now, but there is still plenty of magic if you take the time to appreciate it. I look forward to returning to Primo Piatto to eat again.
