Halloween time at Walt Disney World is a wonderful cacophony of fall colors, villainous characters, and Disney magic. At night Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is a hot ticket for pirate and villain lovers. It's one of my favorite times of the year to visit the Parks and to celebrate the spooktacular Halloween holiday in a fun way that's not too scary.
Over a span of 23 years, Walt Disney produced 12 spooky Halloween-like shorts and more than one mythic movie. He retold classics such as 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' which we reviewed last year, and who can forget the screaming ode to banshee in 'Darby O'Gill and the Little People.' Halloween and Disney just seem to go hand in hand.
Looking back at Disney Halloweens past I thought I would share with you one of my favorite Mickey Mouse Shorts. In 1937, our pals Mickey, Donald and Goofy were working as "AJAX Ghost Exterminators" and after getting a call from an unlikely client they head out to a spooky abandoned house to check out what's going on in 'Lonesome Ghosts.' Mickey Mouse is voiced by Walt himself, and Donald Duck is voiced by Disney Legend Clarence Nash.
'Lonesome Ghosts' was such a popular short that there have been at least seven derivative works inspired by it, such as a Fischer Price Movie Viewer, sounds from the short being used in the TV version of Zorro, use in three video games, music videos, a painting at the 1997 Disneyana Convention, and a shorter re-dubbed version for the Disney Channel.
I can remember being three or four and putting a little toy movie reel into my little plastic camera, then peering into the viewfinder and turning the crank as fast as I could forwards, and then backwards to see it play in reverse. The flood scene was my favorite part, which is yours? Do you have a favorite Disney Halloween movie? Leave a comment and let me know what it is!

Yay! Did you have the Fischer Price Movie Viewer when you were a little kid? I've connected with several people after this article who love this short because they remember watching it on their toy camera.

My brother and I had a Fischer Price movie viewer. This brings back so many memories.
