Disney Parks and Resorts revealed a brand-new look for the Epcot pavilion icons to usher in a new era of family entertainment at the popular theme park. With exciting new experiences on the way that called for new icon designs of their own (such as the Play Pavilion and Guardians of the Galaxy) it was a natural fit to give Epcot's standards new iconography as well.
According to Disney Legend Marty Sklar the original Epcot Center logo was meant to symbolize "unity, fellowship, and harmony around the world." In one simple icon it offers a celebration of life that embraces imagination, commitment, and dedication to creating better tomorrow. The symbols of Epcot past are ingrained in many Disney fans memories; but with original pavilions now gone and exciting new attractions on the horizon, the time just seems right for change.
The look may be new, but these icons still retain the classic feeling that long-time Epcot fans are used to. The fresh designs embrace this updated Epcot that continues to grow and innovate while moving towards a vibrant Park holding a new place in the hearts of travelers for generations to come. Moving forward the symbolism associated with the theme park will feel fresh and new as well.
