The Nomad Lounge is fast becoming one of my favorite spots to relax and have a drink while touring. The dark timber building boasts a lovely wrap around patio and sits above the Discovery River just before you cross the bridge into Pandora. Connected to Tiffins restaurant, the theme of the elegant watering hole is world travel, and the memories collected from such that went into creating Disney's Animal Kingdom. Today we're taking a look at one of the fabulous cocktails being served up at Nomad Lounge, the Spice Trader Classic.
Reading Nomad's cocktail menu is a decadent experience of its own. The luxe leather cover in embossed with a compass rose, and opening the tome quickly immerses you in the travel journal of great explorers. Ones otherwise known as Disney's Imagineers. For fans of Disney history, and lovers of this very special theme park, the menu (the whole space actually) offers a glimpse behind the scenes in its creation.
The attention to travel details continues, not only with the menu filler, but the drinks themselves. Inspired by the exotic flavors the Imagineers came across on their travels, the Nomad Lounge cocktail menu offers many refreshing and unique beverages that can't be found anywhere else. A pleasing collection of beers, wines, and inspired non-alcoholic drinks are sure to please even the pickiest of patrons. There is even a small selection of bites and nibbles available.
The Spice Trader Classic is a refreshing cocktail made from Hayman's Old Tom Gin, Dolin Vermouth Blanc, Lemon Juice, and Strawberries topped with Soda Water. The flavor was clean and fruity, not at all cloying like many Disney Cocktails. The Spice Trader Classic isn't overly strong, but you do know you're having a cocktail. The touch of lemon offers a brightness that balances the flavors and offers symmetry to the palate.
My daughter and I were having a pretty rough day when we stopped in for a "time out" at the Nomad Lounge. Inside we found a mellow mood, comfortable furniture, and heavenly drinks that helped us to turn things around. With air conditioning, and ample charging ports, our visit to Nomad Lounge turned into a trip highlight.
