Since the earliest days of film, makers have been driven to believe that fantasies can come true and that we can create our own reality. The legendary movie studios that mad their home in Hollywood, California were full of such dreamers, dedicated filmmakers who lived to share their visions with the world. Walt Disney himself once said that "Movies are a medium of expression like a symphony orchestra, or a painter's brush or canvas." Disney's Hollywood Studios pays homage to those artists who capture their glittering dreams by technological magic.
As you stroll down Hollywood Boulevard, just before you get to the central courtyard, take a look off to your left and you'll see a bronze statue of a filmmaker from the golden age of Hollywood. The statue, this spirit of American film, is based off of an original in Hollywood created by Aldo and Andrea Favilli that was commissioned by Roy E. Disney meant to celebrate the art of filmmaking. An Imagineer, Andrea Favilli recreated the piece to sit next to the Florida Park's dedication plaque.
Disney's Hollywood Studios is such a manifestation of those glittering dreams, as Michel Eisner said on opening day, it's "Not a place on the map, but a state of mind that exists wherever people dream." Even as the Park changes and evolves today, at its heart are stories that being told by today's most talented filmmakers. This artistic gift is important in our lives, and we should remember that whenever we see a film that moves us. This very special Disney Park celebrates those people who work so hard to share that enchanted state of mind.
Next time you're at Disney's Hollywood Studios, be sure to stop by this statue and take a minute to say thank you to the filmmaker.
